Man Accused of Sawing Off Live Horse’s Leg Must be Jailed

Target: Charles Howland, Prosecuting Attorney for Morrow County, Ohio

Goal: Seek jail time for the man who allegedly amputated his horse’s leg with a saw.

A man is facing animal cruelty charges after allegedly sawing off a horse’s leg without any anesthesia or sedation. According to police, the horse had a broken leg when owner Mark Hill of Morrow County, Ohio amputated the leg above the knee by himself instead of taking the animal to a veterinarian. Veterinarians called to the scene had to euthanize the animal due to the extent of its injuries.

Generally, a broken leg spells the end of a horse’s life, even with modern advances in veterinary technologies and techniques. This is because, in comparison to a human, horses must support an extreme amount of weight with their legs. It’s also nearly impossible for a horse to keep their weight off of the injured leg as it’s healing.

While Hill may have been trying to save this horse from euthanasia, a hack job amputation would have only served to keep the horse in pain for its entire life. Veterinarians say that while the leg may have been saved if Hill had taken the horse to receive proper care, this amputation meant that euthanasia was the only humane option.

This alleged cruelty is absolutely shocking. How a man could, in good conscience, saw the leg off of a screaming animal is unknown. If found guilty, Hill could face up to six months in jail. Sign the petition below to ask the prosecutor to seek jail time in what appears to be deliberate neglect for the well-being of this animal.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Howland,

Mark Hill, a Morrow County resident, is facing charges of animal cruelty for allegedly using a saw to amputate an injured horse’s leg. The amputation was reportedly done without sedation or anesthesia. It’s possible that Hill didn’t bring the horse to a veterinarian because he was afraid that the vet would say that the only humane option was euthanasia, but he didn’t even give the horse a chance — the horse was euthanized anyways due to the severity of the injuries.

This alleged act of cruelty is absolutely shocking. In order to ensure justice is served for this poor animal, we ask you to seek the maximum possible penalty for Hill, if he is found guilty.

Sincerely,

  1. I’m done with the human race. This sick f@ck needs to be dealt with mercilessly.

  2. Six months? That’s it? And the six months isn’t even definite. The laws for animal cruelty, abuse, torture, murder, etc need to be made more stricter and followed to the letter. No leniency, no plea bargaining, NO MERCY! They all need to be made felonies because animals are innocent and can’t defend themselves against all these sick & cruel bast**ds in this world.

  3. I`d saw something off for Mark Hill and it wouldn`t be his f****** leg !!
