Justice for German Shepherd Allegedly Beaten by Owner

Target: Stefanie J. Salavantis, Prosecuting Attorney for Luzerne County, Pennsylvania

Goal: Demand justice for a dog that was reportedly punched, yelled at, and sworn at by its owner.

Animal cruelty charges have been laid against a woman who was allegedly caught on video beating her dog. The video shows a German Shepherd screeching and whining while a woman punches it, yells at it, and swears at it. Two counts of animal abuse have been laid against 31-year-old Karissa Donahue for her alleged beating of her dog, named Olivia.

Neighbors told the Humane Society that this is not the first time this has happened, only the first time it has been caught on video. The dog has since been removed from the home and is under the care of rescuers. According to experts with Blue Chip Animal Refuge, German Shepherds are one of the most intelligent dog breeds out there, and this dog could take months, or even years, to recover from the psychological ramifications of this abuse.

Neighbors who witnessed the event are pleased to see that Donahue has been charged. According to one neighbor, who found the act disgusting, “The whole area loves their pets, they treat them like family.”

This type of alleged cruelty must not go unpunished. Not only will this dog have to bear the physical scars of abuse, it could suffer psychologically for much longer. Sign the petition below to ask the prosecutor to seek the maximum possible penalty against Donahue, if she is found guilty.

Dear Mrs. Salavantis,

A woman is facing animal cruelty charges after allegedly being caught on video punching, yelling at, and swearing at her pet dog. The footage was captured by a neighbor, who claims that this isn’t the first time the woman has lashed out against her dog. The dog, a German Shepherd named Olivia, has been removed from the home and is in the custody of rescuers. According to experts, it could take months, or even years, for Olivia to fully recover from the psychological scars of this alleged abuse.

This dog has a long road to recovery ahead, and it’s imperative that her accused abuser be punished in order to ensure that no more animals are subjected to similar treatment. We, the undersigned, ask you to seek the maximum possible penalty against the owner, if she is found guilty.

I wished I lived in Pennsylvania I would take that dog and a minute I just lost my German Shepherd I miss him so much he is family.

  2. Carol Brandt says:

GSDs are incredibly smart and loyal, apparently much more so than this jerk. Even if poor Olivia was the dumbest mutt on four legs, she would deserve the same love.

  3. KatWrangler says:

There are NO bad dogs or cats – only BAD owners.
Thanks for getting this beautiful doggie away from abuse.
Please find Olivia a home where she’s loved and appreciated <3

  4. I dare this vile bitch to make face to face contact with me. I will ensure that this ugly POS is incapable of ever hurting a poor defenseless animal ever again!!!!

  6. Rosslyn Osborne says:

Bit concerned if she ever breeds, I’d be keeping her on the police watch list for child abuse in the future… Thanks for removing the dogs and I can only hope and pray that Olivia will recover enough to go to a home and family that will love her.
Make sure this vile personage does not ever have pets of any kind ever again! Please. Jail time with counselling and a massive fine to cover all the dogs and welfare folks time and effort to Olivia’s recovery and re homing.

  7. Cynthia Gannon says:

Ignorant and cruel people don’t stop abusive behavior with a slap on the wrist. Punish her legally and make this ridiculous woman accountable.

  8. Carolyn Ecton says:

Something incredibly wrong with that woman. She needs mental help, medication, and lots of jail time so she does not do this to other animals or people!
