Man Accused of Killing Dog With Sledgehammer Must be Punished

Target: Bill Montgomery, Maricopa County District Attorney

Goal: Punish man accused of killing a neighbor’s dog by bashing it in the head with a sledgehammer.

A man is facing animal cruelty charges after allegedly killing an injured dog with a sledgehammer. The man, 49-year-old Ivan Lawrence, is accused of beating his neighbor’s dog to death after it was hit by a car. According to reports, there were several onlookers to the incident, including a 10-year-old boy who now has nightmares.

Reports say that a neighbor noticed that Beau, a 3-year-old pit bull, had escaped his yard and been hit by a car. The dog had limped back to his owner’s yard, where concerned onlookers gathered. One had planned to take the animal to an emergency veterinary clinic. When she returned to her home to get help carrying the dog, witnesses say that Lawrence emerged from his home carrying a sledgehammer.

Witnesses tried to argue with Lawrence about his apparent intent to euthanize the dog. He then allegedly swung the sledgehammer menacingly toward the witnesses, and when they backed away, delivered a fatal blow to the dog’s skull.

This man seemingly acted with incredible cruelty by denying this dog a the chance at survival that a veterinarian could have given him. Even if the dog couldn’t be saved, it could have been euthanized in a much more humane manner that would not have scarred the dog’s owner as well as young witnesses. Sign below to ask the prosecutor to seek the maximum penalty for this man, if he is found guilty.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Montgomery,

A Phoenix man is facing animal cruelty charges after allegedly using a sledgehammer to kill an injured dog. The dog, a 3-year-old pit bull named Beau, had been run over by a car when it limped back into its owner’s yard. When witnesses gathered to try to help it, they say that Ivan Lawrence emerged from his home with a sledgehammer. Per reports, Lawrence then delivered a fatal blow to the dog’s skull, traumatizing a young onlooker.

According to reports, this was completely unnecessary as another neighbor was willing to bring the dog to an emergency vet clinic, where it could have been cared for or humanely euthanized. We, the undersigned, ask that you seek the maximum possible penalty for this man if he is found guilty of animal cruelty.

Sincerely,

This ‘loosely termed’ human needs to be punished to the hilt. It was not his dog and was not his decision how it was to be treated! God bless that young child. Condolences to the family.

Is there a way we could possibly euthanise this “human?” He doesn’t deserve to live. At All.
