Tell Yahoo! Japan to Stop Selling Elephant Ivory

Target: Masayoshi Son, Director of Yahoo! Japan and Chairman of SoftBank Corp.

Goal: Stop the slaughter of Africa’s dwindling elephant populations by ending ivory sales.

As many as 35,000 elephants have been killed annually in recent years for their ivory, fueling a poaching crisis in many African countries. To combat this crisis, technology giants like Google, Amazon, eBay and Alibaba have taken a stand against selling ivory – but Yahoo! Japan remains a major seller of ivory, with US $27 million worth of ivory products sold on Yahoo! Japan Auctions in the last 10 years alone.

SoftBank, with a 43 percent share of Yahoo! Japan, is uniquely positioned to ensure that Yahoo! Japan acts in a socially and environmentally responsible manner and bans the advertisement and sale of all elephant products. Send a message to Masayoshi Son, the Director of Yahoo! Japan and Chairman of SoftBank Corp., urging him to end ivory sales and help stop the slaughter of Africa’s dwindling elephant populations.

Dear Mr. Son,
I am writing to urge you to expeditiously end Yahoo! Japan’s advertisement and sale of elephant ivory products. SoftBank, with a 43 percent share of Yahoo! Japan, is uniquely positioned to ensure that Yahoo! Japan acts in a socially and environmentally responsible manner and bans ivory sales immediately.

Africa’s elephants are in crisis, with as many as 35,000 poached yearly. Sadly, these majestic animals are killed to feed the demand for unnecessary ivory trinkets and trophies.

While the Government of Japan currently permits trade in elephant ivory, many major companies and governments worldwide have adopted more progressive policies to ensure endangered and threatened species are protected. Leading technology companies like Google, and Alibaba have banned ivory sales on all their sites globally, and Yahoo! Inc. in the United States does not permit sales of ivory products.

If future generations have any hope of seeing African elephants in the wild, poaching for the ivory trade must be eliminated. I urge Yahoo! Japan and SoftBank to join the effort to protect elephants by putting a halt to all ivory sales, thus eliminating your roles in this deadly trade.

I’d like to pull all their teeth out of those heartless bastards mouths with a pair of pliers & NO anesthesia❗️😠
    Signed & Shared😡

  2. Stop & pursue this criminal rabble and this deformity  –  instantly!
Not humane than barbaric, really stupid and worthless criminal and ignorant ASSHOLES, which should be banned on an island for their whole lives – the devil should take all responsible persons away! Or not?

Leonie – I understand your frustration. I, too, tirelessly sign many of these Petitions each day. What else can we do? Please know that some Petitions do make a difference and turn things around. And it is because of these few that I continue to sign…

  4. Unfortunately Japan does not have a good record where animal welfare is concerned. Slaughtering whales supposedly for research, yet the whole world knows this a compete lie, Slaughtering dolphins for what reason – Just the sport of it I guess.
Look at all the other countless act of animal cruelty Japan exposes animals too.
Funny I was always taught that Japan was a nation of proud people but they don’t seem to care what the rest of the world think of them.

  5. Why has everybody taken a stand against selling ivory to combat the poaching crisis, Google, Amazon, eBay and Alibaba, but Yahoo??? BOYCOTT YAHOO because of “Yahoo! Japan”…reduce Yahoo to dust.
No words strong enough to express the shock of finding out that Japan still permits the selling of ivory, good for nothing except “decoration” and concocted “status”…and in this day and age, when rhino and as many as 35,000 elephants a year are brutally wounded and killed for no other reason than criminal “greed” as relating to an artificially created market and “tusks”. If elephants (and/or rhinos) go extinct, based on what I have just found out, I will personally hold Japan responsible, Japan at the top of the list of “criminals”.
The sale of ivory should be BANNED.
BOYCOTT YAHOO because of “Yahoo! Japan”…reduce Yahoo to dust.

Japan has horrendous record re whale slaughter. So no surprises here but does not excuse their ignorance.brutality or irresponsibility

  7. I agree: just boycott Yahoo. Get rid of your Yahoo email address perhaps.

    Meanwhile, I pray for elephants:

I love them, And God hears my pleas for their welfare. So whoever hurts them had better back-off (or feel the wrath of God in their lives). No joke. I’ve seen the serpent and some people think this is why I have access to the power of God, but I think it is because of the love I have for Jesus Christ and every creature. I love the elephants and their babies, and I love everyone who uses or abuses them. Then, through love, I ask my Father God to “HELP THEM”. He helps them alright. He helps them see the error of their ways with no patience and no mercy. He is a powerful God who is alive and well, and you’d better believe it!

Going to pray for you now… while I look at pictures of slaughtered elephants.

  8. Victoria Salter says:

I may sign the petition. I consider myself an animal advocate. However, I have a concern about this; are some of the poachers in Africa really poor people that do this just because they can’t find any other way to feed themselves and their children, spouses and families? Don’t get me wrong, I believe in love and compassion for animals as much as the next person. I also believe that animals are as important as people, but I wouldn’t to see anyone die, get hurt, get harmed or not have a way of looking after themselves or others because of this…

  9. Jim Takahashi says:

JPN is still archaic in many ways and, as its history shows, unable to make drastic change from within. So, let’s put pressure on JPN to stop this stupid tradition of using ivory seals.

  10. Kathy Khoshfahm says:

Masayoshi – The Animal Kingdom are citizens of this Earth, too, and they have just as much a right as we do to live their lives on this planet, free from torture and murder at the hands of humans. It is estimated that 100 elephants a day are poached for their Ivory. By allowing you site to buy and sell Ivory, you are contributing to the extinction of these innocent creatures. We need you on our side. Please ban the practice of buying/selling Ivory on Yahoo Japan.
