Target: San Francisco Supervisor Scott Wiener
Goal: Support San Francisco’s decision to declare whales and dolphins free from capture and captivity
San Francisco, California, is now an incredible ally to whales and dolphins that pass within its coastal waters. Recently, the city ruled that no cetacean shall be held captive within its jurisdiction and no trapping or removing cetaceans from the natural waters will be allowed. This new ruling is named the “Cetacean Free and Safe Passage Resolution (CFSPR).” In layman’s terms, Sea World, or any entity like it, will never be allowed in San Francisco, or its coastal waters. This is a huge triumph for dolphins and whales of the area.
This resolution highlights the negative aspects of captivity, including the impacts that captivity has on cetaceans’ mental and physical health. The capture and harm ban includes the Pacific Ocean, San Francisco Bay and estuaries. Citizens young and old have been passionate about the CFSPR since the idea was first introduced. Thousands of letters in favor of cetacean freedom, written by high school students, flooded the court’s mailbox prior to the hearing. During the ruling, Supervisor Scott Wiener applauded the young minds of San Francisco for involving themselves in political practice to achieve necessary change. Freedom for cetaceans was unanimously passed.
Freedom for cetaceans translates positively into so many aspects of the human realm. Understanding that sentient beings do not just exist in the form of a human is a necessary step to ending exploitation of all species. The barbaric times of holding an intelligent marine mammal captive are slowly, yet surely, coming to an end. This San Francisco ruling will only help the evolution of compassion and understanding. Applaud the ruling, as well as Supervisor Wiener for understanding that intelligent life should fight no bounds.
Dear Supervisor Wiener,
San Francisco is now a valiant leader in the fight to give cetaceans utmost freedom. I am overwhelmed with joy at the passing of the Cetacean Free and Safe Passage Resolution. Thank you for commending the young minds of San Francisco for standing up for cetaceans. Thank you for understanding that whales and dolphins deserve to live their lives free from captivity or harm.
Because of this ruling, Sea World and any organization like it will not be allowed to operate within San Francisco, or capture cetaceans in the coastal waters. Humans of the world are beginning to open their eyes to the horrid operations that keep intelligent marine life captive. The city and county of San Francisco is now a leader in this cause.
Times are changing. The era of using other life for entertainment, food, clothing, etc. is slowly coming to an end. Know that you are now on the right side of history. Please continue to fight for the rights of intelligent life.
