Target: Chief of South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, Mark Keel
Goal: Punish Julianne Westberry for allegedly mistreating cats and stealing money
Former animal rescue volunteer Julianne Westberry has been charged with stealing more than $11,000 from funds designated for the care of cats in her charge. Westberry not only is accused of stealing money, but is also allegedly responsible for the deaths of more than two dozen cats. Tell the Chief of South Carolina Law Enforcement to pursue Westberry for both stealing money and for abusing these poor felines.
Authorities assert that Julianne Westberry had been receiving funds to her PayPal account for a year-long period that amounted to $21,505. The money was meant to provide things like food, water, shelter, veterinarian bills, and foster care for the cats that she rescued. She spent an astounding $11,300 of that money on her personal use.
Westberry has been charged with animal cruelty after authorities rescued 69 cats from her home. An unfortunate 37 of those cats perished due to Westberry’s neglect, but the rest were taken to the county shelter. A tip led authorities to another property owned by a man who was corresponding with Westberry. Authorities found another 60 cats and removed them from the property as well. Fortunately all of these cats were healthy.
What is shocking and infuriating to many of the organizations in this area is the fact that Westberry used to be a volunteer at Anderson County Humane Society. It is unclear where the money Westberry received came from, but the arrest warrants state that the money was intended for the cats after Westberry had started her own private animal rescue. Westberry is guilty of misusing funds and is responsible for the deaths of more than two dozen cats. Tell the Chief of Law Enforcement to prosecute this woman for her crimes so she can never hurt another feline.
Dear Chief Keel,
You have no doubt heard about the case involving Julianne Westberry and the thousands of dollars she stole. The mere fact that Westberry had money to provide for her cats, but chose to spend it on herself infuriates me. These cats depended upon her for their well being, but she decided to be selfish. Westberry is not just guilty of animal cruelty, but for breaching trust with fraudulent intent.
I ask that your division punish Westberry for her crimes. These cats could have had a marvelous chance to live a good life and be adopted. Instead they died at the hands of this neglectful woman. I implore you to dole out justice.
