Success: Taiwan Bans the Sale of Dog and Cat Meat

Target: Tsai Ing-wen, President of Taiwan

Goal: Praise Taiwan for implementing stronger animal protection laws.

Taiwan has officially banned the sale of dog and cat meat following a major enhancement of their animal protection laws. Not only is animal cruelty punishable by jail time, but those who sell or consume dog and cat meat will pay a huge fine in addition to having their names and faces publicized to make examples of them.

As Taiwan is one of Asia’s most prosperous societies, this truly speaks volumes for the growing awareness of animal welfare in all of Asia. Taiwanese officials began to show concern for the volume of animals being abandoned, leading to stronger laws against animal cruelty. This growing concern for animal welfare, coupled with petitions like this one on ForceChange, have successfully culminated in a ban on the sale of dog and cat meat. Taiwan now has some of the strongest animal protection laws in all of Asia.

This is a tremendous step forward for Asia’s understanding of animal welfare and protections, especially when taking into account the increase in animal cruelty all over the world this past year. Dogs and cats no longer need to fear for their lives, and they will be treated as living creatures rather than as future meals for humans. Sign this petition to praise Taiwan for taking this step.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear President Tsai,

Thank you for your endorsement and implementation of the recent ban on dog and cat meat sales and consumption as part of your stronger animal protection laws. Animal abuse is happening at an alarming rate all over the world, and your country has put a stop to one of the worst forms of abuse despite the popularity of dog and cat meat in other parts of the continent.

Your understanding of animal welfare will surely set a fine precedent for other countries in Asia and hopefully the rest of the world. Animals deserve as much protection and care as humans do, for they are not just pets or livestock but living creatures. Thank you for understanding this and strengthening your protection of them. I hope that other countries that continue to consume dog and cat meat will soon follow your example.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
