Target: Keller Laros with Ocean Wings Hawaii
Goal: Commend Keller for helping an injured dolphin and potentially saving its life.
A diver off of the Hawaii coast helped a wild dolphin from a potentially fatal situation by removing a fishing line and hook stuck in its body. This heroic effort took place early in 2013. The dolphin appeared to ask for assistance in removing the hook, and allowed Keller Laros to maneuver its body around. By assisting this dolphin, Keller potentially saved the beautiful creature’s life.
Keller was on a nighttime dive with a group of others, observing manta rays feeding on plankton, when a lone bottlenose dolphin swam into the vicinity of the divers. The dolphin did not appear to be swimming properly; when it got close to Keller he realized that the dolphin had a fishing hook in its pectoral fin and fishing line wrapped around its body. Keller bravely reached for the dolphin, and to his surprise the dolphin appeared to ask for assistance by turning over so Keller could pull the hook out.
Keller was able to fully remove the hook and line, quite possibly saving the dolphin’s life. This incident of incredible human compassion reminds us that caring for and respecting other creatures is part of our duty as humans. The world responds to our actions, whether they are positive or negative. By signing this petition you will thank Keller for helping a fellow mammal, ensuring him that people are still inspired by his actions, and pledge to help those that we share this earth with in any way that you can.
