Prevent Tiger Punching and Drugging at Animal “Sanctuary”

Target: Zhang Dejiang, Chairman of the National People’s Congress

Goal: Strengthen animal welfare laws and prevent cruelty toward tigers.

Visitors to the Bear and Tiger Mountain Village in China say they have witnessed drugged tigers being punched and tortured. However, this is just the tip of the iceberg. Although the facility bills itself as an animal “sanctuary,” it appears to actually be a tiger farm, of which 200 are estimated to exist across Asia. At these farms, tigers are bred and held captive so that their bones can be used as the main ingredient in the production of Tiger Bone Wine. The wine is an expensive alcoholic beverage found throughout China, and believed to increase one’s sex drive. Despite China’s ban on the sale of tiger bone products since 1993, the black market continues unfettered, indicating a complete lack of government interest.

China’s lack of action against animal cruelty has led to over 8,000 tigers being held in captivity, which is over twice the amount found in natural habitats. The tigers are bred and taken from their mothers at a young age to take selfies with tourists and then killed for bone wine, which many in Asia believe to be an aphrodisiac. They are kept in cruel and inhumane conditions while their keepers profit. Sign this petition to demand an enforcement of animal cruelty laws in China and a stop to the horrific exploitation of tigers.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Chairman Zhang,

Tiger breeding camps like the Bear and Tiger Mountain Village are abominable and should be outlawed immediately. It is not enough to merely outlaw the sale of animal bones because buyers and sellers just use the black market. Tigers are often bred and held captive just so tourists can take selfies and are then killed for bone wine, which many incorrectly believe to be an aphrodisiac.

Tigers are widely revered for their strength and beauty, yet tiger farms in China continue to relentlessly exploit them. I ask that you introduce legislation that punishes those who abuse animals in China, including the sale of tiger bones, and shut down the Bear and Tiger Mountain Village.

Sincerely,
