Support Exotic Animal Display Ban

Target: Susan Hargreaves, Founder of Animal Hero Kids

Goal: Support the ban of exotic animal displays

Animal Hero Kids is an national organization that focuses on educating the public about the humane treatment of animals and also awards kids for their work advocating animals. Recently, the group of animal welfare advocates requested the Melbourne City Council to consider banning the display of wild and exotic animals. The display of wild animals not only endangers the animals involved, but puts the public at risk of endangerment as well.

This request to ban exotic animal displays in Melbourne, Florida echoes the efforts to ban animal attractions in animal tourism. Both of these issues involve capturing and caging exotic animals to exploit for profits. In the city of Melbourne, a downtown bar recently brought in a lion, a capuchin monkey and a boa constrictor as a part of a jungle-themed fundraiser. These animals were caged and kept in horrible conditions inside the smoky bar.

The animals on display are sometimes subjected to awful conditions that may be hazardous to their health, such as the poorly ventilated, smoky bar. Not to mention, forcing wild animals to live in cages is absolutely cruel. They deserve to live their lives free of cages with safety and comfort. Sign this petition and support the request to ban the display of wild and exotic animals.

Dear Susan Hargreaves,

It has come to my attention that your organization, Animal Hero Kids, has recently addressed the Melbourne City Council and requested that the display of wild and exotic animals be banned. I agree with your argument and strongly believe that these displays unnecessarily endanger both the animals and the public.

I am aware of the most recent case of animal display in your town regarding the downtown bar. I am upset that these animals were made to sit in cages inside a smoky bar. These animals are wild and do not belong in cages, much less a smoky bar. These majestic creatures should be treated with respect, with steps taken to ensure their safety and comfort.

I would like you to know that you have my full support in this ban. No wild animal should be forced to sit in a cramped cage while someone else profits from their discomfort. Thank you for your efforts to help end the displays of wild and exotic animals in Melbourne for good.

  1. How about displaying the most dangerous animal of all, Homosapiens (sapiens?) for a change? Leaving other animals well alone…

  2. toutes creatures participe a une harmonie fragile alors ne mettons pas l indifference dans nos esprit frustré.

  3. i just wish for a certain amount of time the world would let the animals run it, and watch them treat the human being the same way they have been treated, it is sickening to put these beautiful animals through this sort of thing, what is the morons thinking about, what a way to earn money, but i blame the people that go to these places as well.

    • I’ve only been to a couple of bars in my lifetime ( when I was 21) none since–there was always an atmosphere of complete stupidity-ignorance-and general human scum, enough said. I doubt it’s changed since then, that was 45yrs ago,now if these “exotic animals” were given an unruly patron to eat once a day I might condone that.
