Justice for Animals Abused by Reptile Farm Owner

Target: Tom Wolf, Governor of Pennsylvania

Goal: Implement harsher penalties for animal abusers.

The owner of a reptile farm has been found guilty of over 30 counts of animal cruelty related to the discovery of dozens of starving and dead animals in his possession. Bob Furrer, owner of Bob’s Critters, a traveling animal education initiative, will face fines of $3,400 and be forced to pay restitution of $3,638 for the care and rehabilitation of the animals found alive. He will also be banned from animal ownership for 1,020 days, or 30 days per citation. Some animal welfare officials say that considering the state of the animals found, this punishment is too lax.

A large number of animals were found in various stages of decay, some left so long that there was little left but a skeleton. The animals left alive suffered dehydration, starvation and myriad health issues. Two African bullfrogs were found to be infested with parasites, while a snake had a fungus so severe that it migrated to its brain and killed it. Several more snakes were found to be suffering from dermatitis, a spiny-tailed lizard died of kidney failure, and mouth rot plagued a blue-tongued skink. On top of this, animal welfare officials said that the animals were kept in filthy conditions.

In order to ensure that animal abuse is taken seriously, the courts must punish offenders appropriately. Unfortunately, in some cases, lax animal welfare laws prevent this from happening. Without a lifetime ban on animal ownership, this man will be given the opportunity to reoffend. Sign the petition below to demand harsher punishments for animal abusers in order to help deter animal cruelty crimes.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Wolf,

The owner of a traveling reptile farm was recently found guilty of over 30 counts of animal cruelty. Dozens of animals were found on his property dehydrated, starving, and suffering from various health issues. Many other animals were found dead and in differing stages of decay. For his crimes, the man will only pay about $7,000 in fines and be banned from animal ownership for less than three years.

Without more serious minimum penalties for animal abuse, animal abusers will not be deterred from offending. By allowing this man to possess animals again in three years, he will have the opportunity to hurt them again. We, the undersigned, demand that harsher penalties for animal abuse are introduced.

Sincerely,

That punishment is a joke, what is wrong with our so called judicial system? This demands a stronger punishment, and the banning of ever owning any type of living creature for his entire life.

  2. A slap on the wrist helps no one not the poor animals and it doesn’t teach the monster abuser anything except it will cost them nothing to re-offend.

This monster must be severely punished not slapped on the wrist and banned from ever having animals not such a lax sentence. THIS IS INSANE!!!

  3. Carolyn Taylor says:

So very sad! These poor animals suffered greatly. No living being should ever be treated in such a mean and callous manner! The inadequate punishment in this case is heartbreaking! These worthy animals were trapped in horrendous conditions until they finally died. I demand harsher punishment for this putrid animal torturer and murderer, now!

  4. Rosie Boyd Rosie Boyd says:

Get the Governor of Pennsylvania to live amongst decaying bodies and shit, with no food or water for a month ….. then see the penalties get harsher!!

  5. This is exactly why these ABUSERS never learn. They are given light consequences for their actions. This terrible person should never be able to own another creature, ever! And this Govenor should be fired!!!!!!

  6. Frances Raab says:

This miscreant shouldn’t be allowed to own animals forever. 3 years is ridiculous – his behavior is sociopathic

  7. Rosslyn Osborne says:

He souls be banned for life! The fine is just passable, but there should be jail time of 1 year for every dead and dying animals found… minimum! Then a $20 + thousand fine to cover all veterinary and associated costs for the animals that go to sanctuaries and or re-homed.
