Demand Harsh Punishments for Dog Meat Traders

Target: Gonzalo Murata, Provincial Prosecutor, Pangasinan, Philippines

Goal: Seek the maximum possible penalty for two men accused of slaughtering dogs and selling them for their meat.

Two men have been arrested and accused of butchering dogs and selling their meat for profit. The men, arrested in San Fabian, Philippines were reportedly found with two live dogs, hog-tied and ready for slaughter. According to police reports, the men were also found in possession of several already-killed dogs prepared for sale to clients. Officials suspect that the dogs were purchased for around 500 Philippine Pesos, but would have been sold for around P2,500.

The Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit of the Philippine National Police, in coordination with rights group Animal Kingdom Foundation, made the arrest after acting on a tip made by a concerned citizen. The arrested, 63-year-old Ronaldo Reyes and 26-year-old Patrick Sarmiento, will face charges of violating the Animal Welfare Act, Anti-Rabies Law, the National Meat Inspection Code, and the Consumer Act of the Philippines.

While the dog meat trade is illegal in the Philippines, it is still rampant. In order to ensure that this cruel trade is finally brought to an end, it’s important that police and court officials treat this crime seriously. Harsh penalties for dog meat traders will help deter potential offenders in the future. Sign the petition below to demand that if found guilty, these men are punished to the fullest extent of the law.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Murata,

Two men were recently arrested under suspicion of slaughtering dogs and selling them for their meat. They were reportedly found in possession of two dogs that were hog-tied and ready for slaughter, as well as several more already-killed dogs ready for sale. Officials suspect that the men could make up to 2,000 Philippine Pesos per dog sold. The men will face charges of violating the Animal Welfare Act, Anti-Rabies Law, the National Meat Inspection Code, and the Consumer Act of the Philippines.

Despite the illegality of the dog meat trade, many people still participate in it. In order to stop this cruel industry, officials must work to ensure that those involved in the sale and purchase of dog meat are harshly punished. Sign the petition below to ask that prosecutors make an example out of these men by punishing them harshly, if they are found guilty.

Sincerely,

So much evil in this world. How can human being be so greedy, heartless when it comes to the treatment of Gods creatures? These poor animals are helpless! Please prosecute to the fullest extent of the law.
This goes for farm animal abuse and torture as well. NO ANIMAL deserves this!

Prosecute to the fullest extent of the law!!! We have also got to make the laws “much” more harsh! Hold them accountable and use them to set an example! Let them experience their own abuse, torture and murder!

Kill these Asian animal torturing psycho fucks. Making sure these monsters die in agony the same as there innocent and defenceless victims.

  6. This is abhorrent, but please keep in mind that Americans inflict suffering on 100s of thousands of animals every day – cows, pigs, chickens, sheep – who are also intelligent, thinking, sensing, feeling animals who feel fear, anxiety, pain, joy, compassion for one another, desire to protect their young, etc. How does any country determine the value of one animal over another? It is all subjective and no animal deserves to suffer – be tortured and slaughtered. Humans do not need to eat animals to survive in any country. It is now legal for hunters to kill hibernating bears with their cubs while asleep in their dens. And why – because of the “psycho f___” who take pleasure in killing for the sake of killing, no other reason. It’s all abhorrent and we must fight to strengthen laws to protect all animals around the world.

I’ve been to the Philippines and had several Filipino co-workers. They are well-educated and kind. But this dog meat trade is the result of ignorance. Do you not try to educate all of your people, or just the ones with a little money?
