Stop Forcing Orangutans to Perform in Boxing Matches

Target: Mr. Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister of Thailand

Goal: Demand the orangutan boxing show at the Bangkok Safari World Zoo be put to an end.

The Bangkok Safari World Zoo in Thailand is profiting from their exploitative orangutan boxing show every night. The orangutans at this zoo are forced to dress up and box with each other for human entertainment. In addition to the orangutans fighting, other orangutans are forced to dress up in bikinis and hold ring cards.

The zoo is taking advantage of these intelligent creatures every night. Orangutans are docile primates and violence is typically an unknown trait in them. During this show, they are forced to punch, hit, kick and even bite one another. Orangutans are also arboreal animals, meaning they spend most of their lives living in trees. Forcing them to stand on their feet for extended periods of time is extremely difficult for them.

“When you see these animals performing what are uncomfortable and stressful tricks, know that they are not doing it because they want to, they are doing it because they are afraid,” said a spokesperson with PETA.

The zoo is painting this show as something fun and lighthearted, but it is the exact opposite of that for the orangutans. Orangutans are often taken from their mothers in the wild and sold on the black market to only then be forced into situations like this.

Sign this petition to demand that this show is brought to an immediate and permanent end.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Prayut Chan-o-cha

As the Prime Minister of Thailand, you have a responsibility to hold this Bangkok zoo accountable for their abusive actions. The Bangkok Safari World Zoo is forcing orangutans to dress up and fight one another every night, just for the entertainment of tourists and other zoo-goers.

Orangutans are extremely intelligent animals and do not deserve this type of exploitation. We encourage you to do what you can to bring this terrible and exploitative show to a permanent end.

Sincerely,
