Target: Michael Bonner, CEO of Shore Excursions Group
Goal: Praise Shore Excursions Group for no longer supporting cruel elephant rides, and urge other companies to follow suit.
The largest shore excursion company, Shore Excursions Group, has made the compassionate choice to no longer offer elephant rides to its customers. This is great news since elephants used for rides are often abused and neglected.
Shore Excursions Group works with many different branches of travel including travel agencies and cruise lines. For a while, the company was working with elephant ride companies; however, that ended once the company learned about what happens behind the scenes. Elephants used for rides are often taken away from their families in the wild at very young ages. The training process for these animals typically includes being bound so tightly they cannot move and being beaten into submission with sharp tools. Many of the elephants die during this training, and those who survive are left to give endless rides to ignorant tourists.
Sign this petition to praise Shore Excursions Group for ending its support of elephant rides, and encourage the company to help lead an industry-wide shift. More travel companies should join Shore Excursions, as well as other leaders like TripAdvisor, Costco Travel and Tauck, in the fight against the cruel exploitation of elephants.
Dear Mr. Bonner,
Recently, Shore Excursions Group made the compassionate choice to no longer support elephant rides. This is great news for the elephants trapped within this industry.
As you are now aware, elephants used for rides face a variety of hardships. These elephants are often taken away from their families at very young ages and forced into training. The training process is gruesome and many elephants don’t survive. The training tactics typically include being tied up so tightly they cannot move and being beaten into submission. It is a sad world for these elephants.
Thank you for making the choice to no longer support this cruelty. I can only hope more companies follow in your footsteps, and I encourage you to pressure other players in the industry to follow your lead.
