Target: Fabrizio Freda, CEO of Estée Lauder
Goal: Stop testing Clinique cosmetics on animals.
Despite its claims of being committed to ending animal testing, Clinique continues to sell its products in China, which requires that cosmetic products be tested on animals. Though the statement on Clinique’s website could mistakenly lead consumers to believe the company is cruelty-free, animals still continue to suffer in the name of Clinique’s products because of its continued compliance with China’s animal testing policies.
Animals in laboratories, including mice, rats, guinea pigs, and rabbits, must endure routine poisonings, force-feedings, and applications of harmful substances to their skin. After enduring lifetimes of abuse, neglect, and pain, they are killed and examined for signs of irritation or disease. However, humans and animals often respond differently to the same substances, so the results of these tests are often not only cruel, but largely inaccurate.
Luckily, there are effective, humane alternatives to animal testing for cosmetics that much of the world uses, which produce results more applicable to humans. However, until Clinique stops selling its products in China, it must test products on animals by law, despite these alternatives. By signing this petition, you will help urge Estée Lauder CEO Fabrizio Freda to stop testing its products on animals and prioritizing profit over animal lives.
Dear CEO Fabrizio Freda,
Clinique products are currently being tested on innocent animals so that your company can sell its products to Chinese distributors. Though your website claims to be committed to ending animal testing, the company’s policies of animal testing “when required by law” refute that claim. In order to meet the ethical standards of other prominent and well-respected cosmetic companies, Clinique must end animal testing in its laboratories, even if that means surrendering the Chinese market.
Not only are the conditions in cosmetics testing laboratories cruel and inhumane, animal testing is largely ineffective, as it does not produce reliable results for human use of products. Other, more effective methods could be utilized that do not resort to animal abuse and produce more reliable results, such as using actual human cells.
I urge you to take a stand against animal testing and refuse to sell your products to Chinese distributors. Not only will your company be doing its part to end these cruel practices, Clinique will be able to honestly claim that it takes a stance against animal testing. Please take action and stop selling your products in China to ensure that no more animals are harmed in the name of your company.
