Target: Sonny Perdue, Head of United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)
Goal: Ban the use of dangerous and deadly cyanide traps, M44s.
Many are unaware but for years the U.S. government has been using M44s, a cyanide trap disguised as scented bait, to kill coyotes and wolves. The device has killed other wildlife over the years but has also killed family pets and recently put a child in danger. It is time to make these devices illegal.
Over six years, 3,400 non-targeted wildlife and family pets were mistakenly killed by M44s. This number is according to the USDA, but many believe this number could be even higher. Recently a family was out in their yard when their 14-year-old boy and their family dog discovered one of the devices. Due to curiosity, the boy touched the device, which activated it. Orange powder shot from the device and covered the boy and the dog. The dog died within a few minutes, and the boy was rushed to the hospital and is thankfully doing okay. The device was only 350 yards away, which was right on the property line from the boy’s home. The family nor the county sheriff knew of the placement of this device.
Sign this petition and demand that the USDA no longer use these cruel devices. Not only is cyanide poisoning an unnecessarily cruel death, but it has lead to too many accidental deaths.
Dear Mr. Perdue,
For years, the USDA has been using M44s, a cyanide trap, to kill coyotes and wolves. Not only is cyanide poisoning an excruciating death, but these devices have lead to thousands of accidental deaths of non-target wildlife and family pets. It is time to ban this dangerous device.
Recently, a family was out in their yard when their 14-year-old boy and their family dog came across a M44. Neither knew of the device’s deadly powers, and the boy touched it out of curiosity. This activated the device, which spewed orange powder all over the boy and the dog. The dog died within minutes while the boy was rushed to a nearby hospital and is thankfully doing okay. This device was right on the family’s property line, about 350 yards away from their home, and they had no idea about the new placement of this deadly device.
Please consider banning these dangerous devices. They are unnecessarily cruel, and it is only a matter of time before a child is killed.
