Target: Clinton M. Campion, District Attorney, Anchorage, Alaska
Goal: Punish woman accused of abandoning two dogs in her home, sentencing them to death.
A woman is facing animal cruelty charges after two dead dogs were reportedly found in her home. Police approached the home to to a wellness check on the owner, who was reportedly ill and hadn’t been seen in a few days. Through the window, police say that they saw an unkempt home and the corpse of a dog plainly visible.
Upon entering the home, officers reportedly found another dead dog. They also found trash and feces covering the floors. They did not, however, find the homeowner.
The owner, Kathleen Murphy, was later found at her office. She had reportedly left her home days earlier and was living at work. Per reports, an underweight dog was found with her. Police say that the office had urine on the floor.
The dog that was found alive, a male Labrador mix named Rocky, was in bad condition. He was reportedly weak from lack of nourishment. He will remain in the custody of animal protection services until legal proceedings against his owner are complete.
The type of callous abandonment of animals described by police is completely unacceptable. These deaths were entirely preventable and could have been easily avoided had the dog’s owner called neighbors or even a local Humane Society to ask if they could take care of the animals. These deaths appear to be due to blatant neglect and should be dealt with accordingly. Sign the petition below to demand that the owner of these animals is punished to the fullest extent of the law.
Dear Mr. Campion,
A woman has been accused of abandoning her dogs, resulting in the death of two. The dogs were reportedly found in an unkempt home with trash and feces all over the floors. The homeowner allegedly left the dogs in the home while she went to live in her office for several days. When police entered her office, they found another dog, which appeared to be underweight and had urinated all over the floor.
This appears to be a case of deliberate neglect. No animal should have to suffer in this manner. In order to ensure justice is served for these animals, the person responsible must be punished accordingly. We, the undersigned, ask you to seek the maximum possible penalty against the owner, if found guilty.
