Justice for Livestock Allegedly Starved and Neglected

Target: Douglas D. Emery, Prosecuting Attorney for Owyhee County, Idaho

Goal: Demand the maximum penalty for the couple who allegedly neglected and starved over 60 horses and cows, leading to the death of 15 animals.

Six horses and nine cows were reportedly found dead on a couple’s property. The remaining animals were reportedly malnourished and in deplorable condition. Demand justice for these innocent animals.

“I was able to see there were dead livestock laying everywhere, frozen into the ground. It was a horror show,” stated Deputy Sheriff Larry Kendrick. In addition to the 15 dead cows and horses, deputies with the Owyhee County Sheriff’s Office reportedly found 38 live horses and eight cows. The horses’ ribs reportedly showed through their coats and their hooves were overgrown.

The couple has been charged with 23 counts each of animal cruelty and failure to feed and water animals. The Idaho Horse Rescue has taken in some of the horses and the others are being cared for by reserve deputies. Sign below to demand that this couple receive the maximum penalty by law, if convicted.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Prosecuting Attorney Emery,

Fifteen cows and horses were found dead on an Owyhee County property. Over 30 additional animals were also allegedly starved and neglected. We demand justice for these innocent animals.

“One of the agriculture investigators, in fact he said that in court, that it was the worst he had ever seen,” stated Sheriff Kendrick. He first spotted the line of dead animals from the property line. From there, deputies counted a total of 46 horses and 17 cows on the property. Those who were still alive were reportedly so malnourished that they continued to show signs of starvation a month after their rescue.

This alleged neglect cannot go unpunished. We demand that you seek the maximum penalty in this case.

Sincerely,

  1. Beth Marie says:

Attorney Emery, you will do your job and prosecute. People are sick and tired of these animal abusers walking free, proven they do it again and again. People are watching, we want JUSTICE.

  2. Catherine Jenereaux says:

How did this go undetected for so long. I am sure these people’s family and friends knew about it. They are as guilty as the farm owners. If people who know of a situation like this were charged for not going to authorities we would see far less of this kind of abuse. Being accountable people. Get your head out of your …. and speak up. It makes me ill to think how long these poor animals suffered with some ending in death.

  3. These scumbags of humans should get at LEAST 75 years in jail – 1 year for EACH individual animal’s tortured life &/or death. THAT would come closer to a more fitting justice system and more appropriate punishment.

  4. Anne Moeller says:

Do not waste tax money on jail time-put them in VERY SMALL cages with no food or water and let them rot in hell.

  5. Carolyn Taylor says:

What a terrible injustice to these worthy animals! Punish these putrid animal starvers to the fullest extent of our completely inadequate animal abuse laws, now!

  6. Angela Rabon says:

These people should spend maximum time in jail. In addition, each time a person is convicted of animal abuse, the person should have to pay for any and all animal bills related to the abuse for the rest of the animal’s life. If the animal dies, there should be a predetermined amount set for the abuser to pay. Laws need to change to protect animal owners, shelters, and animal clinics, etc. Those who work to save the lives of animals should NOT have to constantly fight, search, and at times, beg for funds to help these deserving, tortured animals. Let those who commit the crimes pay the tab!
