Ban Live Animals at NHL Games

Target: Gary Bettman, Commissioner of National Hockey League (NHL)

Goal: Ban live animals at NHL games and events.

Recently, at a Pittsburgh Penguins hockey game, the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium provided penguins to march out on the ice. The arena was packed with people and extremely loud. This situation was incredibly stressful for these animals and it is time to stop the exploitation.

Animal held in captivity already face a number of mental and physical challenges daily. Forcing these animals into large, loud, crowded arenas only makes things worse. Penguins naturally evade humans, so forcing them into the chaos of a crowded hockey arena makes for a very tense and nerve-wracking situation for these animals.

Sign this petition and demand the NHL ban live animals at games and events. Animals belong in the wild, not crowded hockey arenas.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Bettman

Recently, the Pittsburgh Penguins had live penguins march along the ice during one of its loud and crowded games. This is an incredibly stressful situation for animals and it is time to stop this unnecessary exploitation.

Animals held in captivity already face a number of physical and mental health problems. Captivity makes them more susceptible to disease and often leads to stress behaviors like pacing and consistent rocking back and forth. Forcing these animals into an even more stressful situation only makes matters worse. These animals naturally evade humans, so dragging them into loud, crowded arenas causes unimaginable stress.

Please consider banning live animals at NHL games and events. Crowded hockey arenas are no place for wild animals.

Sincerely,

  1. There’s got to be a better way to sign all of these petitions. It’s very time consuming to fill out name, email, and address, I’ve signed several in a row from particular emails that I get by clicking a button and all of my information is already there and it’s as easy as clicking “sign petition” instead of filling everything out every time.

Hi Kyle, if you become a member (no charge) all of your information will be saved and automatically entered. That’s what I did on the website. There’s also a membership where for a donation you can sign several at once. But the free membership will at least store all your info so you won’t have to enter each time. Hope you get this and it helps. So nice that you take the time to sign these petitions to help animals!

    • Hey Kyle, becoming a member is a great way to solve this and give back but u can also use Google Chrome, it has a key chain to remember your details and after you’ve done it once all you have to do after that is type the first letter of your name and it fills the rest of the boxes in. Saves alot of time and means you can sign more petitions 😉 hope this helps.

This is a thoughtless and stupid idea. It’s very unnatural to force these creatures into a situation which is stressful and unnatural to them. Use little kids- they would love it and are always very amusing.

  3. This is a cruel, inhumane practice to force these penguins in a cage, to be transported, taken away from their homes, and paraded around on the ice. They must have all been deathly afraid of the horribly loud noises. Leave all of these animals alone, in their natural habitats.
