Target: Phil Huck, Executive Director of Barrow Council
Goal: Praise the Barrow Council for refusing to renew South Lakes Safari Zoo’s license.
South Lakes Safari Zoo is a popular zoo in the U.K. with a dark past. Almost 500 animals have died while in this zoo’s care and inspectors from Captive Animals’ Protection Society (CAPS) saw some disturbing things.
CAPS, government officials and the public have raised concerns about the conditions of the animals imprisoned at South Lakes Safari Zoo. CAPS found an emaciated kangaroo, a lemur with a sore, and a mongoose with missing fur and what seemed like a skin condition. Government officials found that the animals that had died or were dying were from preventable causes like emaciation, hypothermia, and reckless accidents.
Sign this petition and praise the local council for refusing to renew South Lakes Safari Zoo’s license. These animals deserve so much more than the misery and exploitation this zoo is forcing upon them.
Dear Mr. Huck,
Recently, the city council decided to not renew South Lakes Safari Zoo’s license. This is great news considering the atrocities that have happened at this zoo.
Government officials, animal protection agencies and the general public have all raised concerns for the welfare of the animals at this zoo. Almost 500 animals have died in the last four years and many of these deaths were preventable. Some of these deaths include emaciation, hypothermia and reckless accidents. For example, a tortoise was electrocuted, a lemur was killed after escaping into the wolf enclosure, and multiple animals were put down simply because the zoo did not have enough room.
Thank you for refusing to renew South Lakes Safari Zoo’s license. The zoo has made it abundantly clear that they lack responsibly and respect for its animals. Hopefully these animals will be brought to sanctuaries where they can happily live out the rest of their days.
