Target: Matt Durrett, Washington County, Arkansas Prosecuting Attorney
Goal: Punish woman accused of forcing dogs to live in deplorable conditions.
A woman is facing animal cruelty charges after officials reportedly found dozens of dogs living in their own urine and feces during a search of her home. Fayetteville investigators found 25 dogs, one cat, and three dead dogs. One of the dogs was reportedly dead for approximately four months and was not disposed of. The home was filthy and most of the animals were in poor condition, per veterinarian reports.
Investigators who entered the home required masks due to the overwhelming scent of decay and urine. Several of the dogs were found locked in tiny cages, living in piles of feces and urine inches deep. In one room, the pools of animal waste were reportedly three feet deep. According to a veterinarian with Fayetteville Animal Services who examined the animals, they all had feces and urine matted into their fur. Many of the animals were abnormally thin and weak.
Animal shelters from Fayetteville and neighboring towns stepped up to share what they knew about 63-year-old Vickie West, the owner of the animals. According to one shelter, she told staff that she worked closely with rescue groups across the county to find homes for animals at risk of euthanasia. A Texas shelter claimed that she adopted several dogs from them, including one named Jerry Lee. After a little more than one month, Jerry Lee was allegedly returned to the same shelter, emaciated and with sores all over his body.
Regardless of the intentions of this woman, it is clear that these animals suffered greatly in conditions hazardous to their health. Some even died. In order to ensure no more animals are subjected to this barbaric treatment, the person responsible must be punished harshly. Sign the petition below to demand that West is punished to the fullest extent of the law and banned from owning animals, if she is found guilty.
Dear Mr. Durrett,
A woman is accused of forcing animals to live in a veritable house of horrors, where pools of urine and feces lined the floors and some animals were confined to tiny cages. Several of the animals rescued from her home were reportedly thin and weak. Three dead dogs were also found on the property, apparently left to decay.
This shocking treatment is unacceptable. In order to endure no more animals are subjected to this treatment, we demand that the person responsible is punished to the fullest extent of the law and banned from animal ownership.
