Praise Clothing Retailer for Ending Fur Sales

Target: GAP Chairman Glenn Murphy

Goal: Thank popular clothing retailer for finally ending its sale of real fur products

Worldwide retail chain GAP recently announced that it will no longer allow the sale of real fur on its online subsidiary Piperlime. The decision was made largely because of pressure from animal rights activists and petitions, which collectively gathered hundreds of thousands of signatures. GAP will now be an entirely fur-free retailer and for that it deserves our gratitude.

Last year, GAP and several other major retailers banned angora after a video was released by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) showing live angora rabbits in China having their fur ripped out. Piperlime, Gap’s online subsidiary, however, continued to sell fur products from other designers and brands that hadn’t participated in the ban. PETA continued putting pressure on Gap to stop selling fur on Piperlime earlier this year and join other major retailers that have gone fur-free, including Ralph Lauren,, Stella McCartney, Tommy Hilfiger, John Bartlett, and Calvin Klein.

A spokesperson for GAP released a statement, saying, “Your opinions and views matter to us. That is why, effective immediately, Piperlime will no longer sell real fur products, whether they are made by our company or not. This is an expansion beyond our existing policy of prohibiting real fur in our branded products. We are committed to the ethical sourcing of our products, which includes the humane treatment of animals. We are also committed to our customers and welcome your feedback.”

With more major retailers committing to cruelty-free products, fur will become a thing of the past. Recent polls from by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) revealed that 95 percent of people would not buy or wear real fur.

Please take a moment to thank GAP for listening to its customers and making a significant dent in the fur industry by signing the petition below.

Dear Chairman Murphy,

After months of pressure from customers and animal rights groups, your company decided to stop selling real fur products on your online shop Piperlime, joining other major retailers in becoming cruelty-free, such as Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger. As one of the largest clothing retailers in the world, your contribution will have a significant impact on the decline of the fur industry.

Thank you so much for listening to your customers and doing your part to ensure that animals are treated with kindness and respect.

  2. Thank you very much GAP, for stop killing innocent animals and respect their life ¬¬

  3. How ’bout NOT doing business with China at all ?!?!?!?! That country is probably the worst when it comes to animal abuse and cruelty !!!!!! Thanks GAP !!!!

  4. flor Chavez says:

Thank you for stop killing animals.

  5. If the whole world stopped killing animals for fur it would be a step ahead. Keep in mind there are a lot of fur farms operating right here in the US google it and see how many come up. I hope the pressure can be kept up on the retailers that sell fur no matter who complains about it. When I signed this petition believe it or not there was a company pushing a fur sale on this very page.

A lot of these fur farms will go out of business if they can’t sell their product. But there well always be wealthy nutballs and actors that will turn up in a fur
coat. Since the population in China has more money now that is another group that could keep China’s fur farms going.

  6. N’avez-vous pas d’autres manières de montrer votre “richesse”?

  8. Kathy Khoshfahm says:
