Justice for 92 Dogs Allegedly Severely Neglected

Target: Bonnie Dumanis, District Attorney for San Diego County

Goal: Ban alleged animal hoarders from animal ownership.

An elderly couple is facing animal abuse charges after 92 dogs were removed from their home in poor condition. The dogs, all Yorkshire Terriers, were suffering from a myriad of health conditions, including fleas, hair loss, overgrown nails, skin issues, ear infections, and poor teeth. Many of the dogs reportedly had feces matted into their fur, and one was even missing part of its leg.

Officials say that the animals were kept in deplorable conditions unlike any previously seen. The home reportedly had clutter lining the walls and feces lining the floor, causing a serious health risk to any animals or people inside. The Humane Society suspects that this is a case of animal hoarding. Later, officials even discovered 31 more dogs reportedly owned by the couple that were being held offsite.

So far, the first 92 dogs have already been groomed and are in line to be spayed or neutered, as well as to receive vaccinations and be microchipped before adoption. Over 200 kind community members have contacted the Humane Society to volunteer to adopt or foster the animals rescued from the home.

While hoarding is a mental illness, it’s important that this cruelty not be left unpunished. It’s imperative that we ensure that no more animals are subjected to suffering at the hands of these hoarders. Sign the petition below to demand that the owners of the home are banned from owning animals in the future.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mrs. Dumanis,

Over 90 Yorkshire Terriers were recently rescued from the home of an elderly couple where they were allegedly kept in deplorable conditions. The animals reportedly suffered from an array of health issues, including ear infection, fleas, skin problems, overgrown nails, and poor teeth. The dogs had feces matted into their fur, and one was even missing part of its leg, per reports. As if this wasn’t shocking enough, officials later found over 30 more animals kept offsite.

We must protect animals from the cruel conditions and neglect that they allegedly faced while in the care of these hoarders. While it’s important to take into account that the couple suffers from a mental illness, we must also protect the animals. We, the undersigned, demand that these people are banned from animal ownership and that regular checks are performed on their property to ensure compliance.

Sincerely,
