Commend Organization for Saving Snowy Owls

snowy owl

Target: Priscilla Feral, President of Friends of Animals

Goal: Applaud animal rights group for saving the lives of migrating Snowy Owls

Migrating Snowy Owls will no longer be shot while flying near airports in New York. The activist group Friends of Animals put a stop to the unnecessary shooting of owls at JFK airport, arguing that the birds should be relocated instead. The owls will now be relocated for their safety, and for the safety of airplane passengers.

Federal law requires that government officials weigh all of their options in order to keep Snowy Owls and travelers safe when the owls are flying in the area. Recently, officials at JFK Airport have disregarded this law and have resorted to shooting the owls outright, rather than considering a more sustainable solution to the problem. There have been three owl victims to date. Snowy owls are legally protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act (MBTA), which ensures that the birds’ best interest is upheld, and holds those that kill protected birds accountable.

Friends of Animals vows to keep JFK Airport current with federal law, and on par with the MBTA, in order to keep the large numbers of migrating Snowy Owls safe for years to come. Applaud Friends of Animals for its dedication to this amazing and beautiful bird.

Dear Priscilla Feral,

Your activist group, Friends of Animals, has been a strong, ethical voice for animals in need. One of your group’s recent achievements has given protection to migrating Snowy Owls that fly too close to New York airport terminals.

Your watchful eye, combined with the federal law that acts to protect Snowy Owls, should be all of the motivation that JFK Airport needs to keep the birds safe. JFK recently announced its commitment to traveling animals by building a 32 million dollar state-of-the-art facility. This new addition to the airport will offer veterinary care and safe areas for traveling animals to reside. This dedication to domestic animals is a good step; this care should be shown to all animals, not just those with paying owners. JFK Airport must be held accountable for the well-being of all animals.

Thank you for using your influence to ensure that these birds make it to their destination safely.
