Remember the World’s Tallest Dog

Great Dane

Target: Zeus, the world’s tallest dog

Goal: Remember Zeus, the world’s tallest dog

Recently, Zeus, the world’s tallest dog, passed away. A Great Dane standing 44 inches tall–seven feet, four inches on his hing legs–this dog held the Guinness World Record for the world’s tallest dog. Unfortunately, he passed away two months before his sixth birthday. This gentle giant should be remembered for his calm demeanor and work as a therapy dog.

In 2013, Zeus’s name was added to the Guinness World Record for being the tallest dog in the world, trumping previous record holder Giant George, who was also a Great Dane. Aside from being famous for his height, Zeus was a certified therapy dog, and would visit patients in hospitals and schools. He would often sit in their laps and make everyone smile with his calm and sweet demeanor. Outside, Zeus would get a lot of attention from bystanders who often wondered if Zeus was a dog or a horse. His owners, Kevin and Denise Doorlag, loved the reactions.

Big dogs such as Great Danes do not live for very long. Big dogs age faster, and the average life span for a Great Dane is seven years. Despite being so large, these dogs are couch potatoes who enjoy sitting in the laps of their owners or sleeping. The breed is also extremely iconic, seen in shows such as Scooby Doo. It is unfortunate that these gentle giants do not live longer, but they hold a special place in the hearts of their owners. Sign this petition and remember the world’s tallest dog, Zeus.

Dear Zeus,

As the world’s tallest dog, you’ve no doubt received plenty of attention in the form of hugs, kisses, and treats. It saddens me that you are no longer with us, and I hope your passing was not one complicated with medical conditions.

In addition to your fame and glory, you became a certified therapy dog. You brought smiles and happiness to many of the patients you’ve visited, and I’m sure they have a fondness for you in their hearts. I am sure your owners, Kevin and Denise will sorely miss you, as will the rest of the world. May you forever find comfy pillows and beds to sleep in, and meadows to sprawl over. Rest in peace Zeus.

  1. You are flying high now dear Zeus. Thank you for providing a smile to those who heard about you.

  2. Steve Tremmel says:

I really am very sorry for your loss, I’m sure there will be a void in your hearts for some time,
But please know that in time that void will be replaced by many fond memories of the love and joy he brought you and the people he helped with the therapy.

  3. Ellis Toscano says:

Giant breeds live a short enough time. Selectively breeding a gigantic dog is asking for an early death. Sorry his breeder was so interested in size and not health. Shame on them. He was always a ticking time bomb.

  4. Cecily Colloby says:

    RIP Zeus.

  5. RIP Zeus. I hope you find many old friends as you cross Rainbow Bridge. Thank you for the time you spent here on earth!
