Condemn Laboratory for Repeated Animal Abuse

lab animal

Target: John W. McCall, President of TRS Labs Inc., of Athens, Georgia

Goal: Condemn TRS Labs, Inc. for abusing and mistreating the animals in its care

TRS Labs, Inc. in Athens, Georgia, was recently fined by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) for animal welfare violations. Upon its most recent visit to TRS Labs, the USDA found a dog with a dime sized oozing wound; cats kept in crates designed for dogs, meaning the bottom wire holes were big enough for the cats’ paws to slip through; and a gerbil that was euthanized due to wounds it suffered from a fight with another gerbil.

TRS Labs has received many negative reviews from the USDA in the past, and has failed to improve conditions for its animals. Even though the lab’s owner knows that the USDA performs frequent inspections, the animals’ conditions have not improved.

The lab has been fined $26,000 for mistreating its animals. The facility tests on dogs, cats, hamsters and ferrets, and the lab’s report card shows upwards of 200 animals are experimented on per year. Some of these animals undergoing painful experimentation, for which an anesthetic is necessary. The USDA’s visits conclude that these animals are not receiving basic veterinary care for wounds, nor are they allowed a comfortable resting place.

The animals at TRS Labs deserve better. The experiments they are forced to undergo are painful, inhumane and often life-threatening. Inform TRS Labs, Inc. that you will not tolerate this kind of treatment to animals, and that its operations are under scrutiny by the USDA and the American public, and we don’t like what we see. This mistreatment must end.

Dear John W. McCall,

Animal welfare violations at TRS Labs have included a dog with an infected wound, and cats that are forced to live in cages meant for dogs, causing their paws to slip through the bottom grate. Your lab was rightly fined $26,000 by the USDA, and negative attention has been focused on your laboratory.

The USDA has discovered animals in your care that required veterinary assistance but did not receive it. This is unacceptable. Animals are beings with pain receptors, feelings and personalities. No animal deserves to live its life as a practice dummy, but those that are forced into that life deserve to have their basic needs met.

You have been cited in the past for the mistreatment of laboratory animals, and it seems that these issues are recurring. Please know that you are under the watchful eye of the American public, and we expect change. When an animal requires veterinary care to live comfortably, administer this. Learn from this recent fine from the USDA, and from the public disapproval of myself and countless others.

  1. What kind of people can work in a place like TRS? Sick, cruel people who get their kicks from legally abusing animals.
TRS has been a thorn in the side of animal caregivers for quite a while. It’s time to permanently stop this horror!

  2. Sheila Jefferson says:

You are being watched by One more Who we all have an appointment with.
    Stop this evil!

  3. Morgan Kanae says:

The same kind of mentality is seen in animal slaughter plants. It’s sad but I have a relative in my family who is a doctor. He was in research and then went to private practice sand he told me that some of the medical researchers he worked with were pretty cold people.

  4. Lisbeth Alvarado Sanchez says:

Animal cruelty should not be tolerated. TRS lab should be closed once an for all and the people that work in it charged with animal cruelty and sent to jail. Enough is enough.

  5. renee jeanine ragno says:

Shut all of them down. There is no justification for this kind of treatment to helpless, innocent, defenseless animals. PULL their funding, BOYCOTT them

  6. These people do horrific things to animals, like the Nazis did to Jews, homosexuals and Roms during WWII. They do not consider animals as thinking, sensitive beings – the Nazis didn’t either.

  7. Your facility is a bloody disgrace. You weren’t fined enough and one day karma is going to come back and bite you all in the a*#e for the way you mistreat animals. Shame on you!

  8. Kindness Ranch will take your abused animals and give them a life they deserve. Stop your needless experiments.

  9. Patricia Wicker says:

Sick Demented Sadistic people that do this.

  10. Until I can put you out of business for good, the least you can do is give respect to the animals you torture, maim and kill in the name of “science.” The day will come when you are all out of work because the world is wising up that these experiments are useless and the people who conduct them are just sucking money for producing junk science. When you die, your neighbor in the next world will be Josef Mengele.
