Target: Sue Thompson, Event Coordinator at River’s Edge Convention Center
Goal: Cancel plans with The Great Bear Show.
The Great Bear Show is a traveling “educational” show that allegedly exploits its bears for profit. Unfortunately, River’s Edge Convention Center is planning on hosting this show despite the company’s reputation.
The show is run by Bob Steele, who has been cited multiple times by the USDA. He has been cited for not providing veterinary care when needed on two occasions and for mishandling the bears, which allegedly put the animals and the public in danger. In addition, the show carts around a bear suffering from arthritis and often keeps him in concrete enclosures that concerned citizens believe only make his pain worse.
Sign this petition to demand the convention center cancel its plans with The Great Bear Show. Bears are meant to be in the wild, not carted around and forced into crowded, loud arenas.
Dear Ms. Thompson,
Your convention center currently has plans with The Great Bear Show, despite knowing of this show’s controversial reputation.
The show is run by Bob Steele, who has a history with the USDA. He has been cited multiple times for not providing adequate veterinary care when needed and for mishandling the bears which put the animals and people in danger. In addition, the show travels with a bear suffering from arthritis. This bear is kept in concrete enclosures that we believe only make his condition worse.
Please consider canceling your plans with The Great Bear Show. These animals should not be carted around and forced into large, loud crowds for human entertainment. They deserve to be roaming free in the sunshine.
