Target: Famed band Barenaked Ladies
Goal: Commend popular musicians for canceling their SeaWorld performance
The popular band the Barenaked Ladies has decided to cancel its upcoming performance at SeaWorld. This decision was made after the band watched “Black Fish,” a documentary exposing the tragic tale of killer whale Tillkum and how his neglect and abuse led to the deaths of three individuals. Please commend the Barenaked Ladies for taking a stand against SeaWorld and its abusive treatment of animals.
The Barenaked Ladies posted a message on its Facebook page announcing the cancelation of the SeaWorld performance stating, “This is a complicated issue, and we don’t claim to understand all of it, but we don’t feel comfortable proceeding with the gig at this time.” It’s not surprising that the band is not comfortable performing at SeaWorld. Studies have shown that life in captivity, at SeaWorld and other marine parks, causes whales to have drastic social, health and aggression issues that often lead to their early death.
The now-cancelled performance was part of SeaWorld’s “Bands, Brew and BBQ” concert series. Hopefully, all of the other artists on the lineup including Willie Nelson, Cheap Trick and Martina McBride will follow the Barenaked Ladies’ lead and show their opposition to animal mistreatment as well.
By declining to perform at SeaWorld, the Barenaked Ladies are taking a clear stance against animal abuse. Please take a moment to thank them for making the humane decision to cancel their performance at the SeaWorld Bands, Brew and BBQ event.
Dear Barenaked Ladies,
I was pleased to learn that you canceled your performance at Sea World’s Bands, Brew and BBQ event. By declining to perform at the marine theme park, you are taking a stand against SeaWorld and their abusive treatment towards animals.
As you know, studies have shown that captivity causes whales to have drastic social, health and aggression issues that often lead to their early death. I hope that you will encourage the other artists on the concert lineup to cancel their performances as well.
Thank you for raising awareness to the inhumane and abusive treatment of whales by canceling your performance at SeaWorld.
