Target: Tim Wright, District Attorney of Delaware County, Oklahoma
Goal: Stop allowing animal cruelty to go unpunished.
Two couples were facing multiple animal cruelty charges for allegedly abusing and neglecting their dogs, but the district attorney says they’ve decided to dismiss all the charges. The animals were seized after investigations, but the justice system has even gone so far as to put most of them right back under the care of the owners. One of the couples faced 10 felony counts of cruelty to animals and the second couple had six animal cruelty charges, and both were high-profile cases.
It seems the justice system has completely failed these poor animals. Not only did the owners go completely unpunished, but they’ll also be getting to keep the animals. The reason all charges were dismissed in both cases, according to District Attorney Kenny Wright, was due to a search warrant affidavit issue. A spokesperson for one of the animal rescue groups that assisted in both investigations says she’s disappointed in Wright’s decision to drop all the charges. Please sign this petition to demand that the justice system start punishing the people who commit cruelty to animals and stop rewarding them.
Dear Mr. Wright,
The sheriff’s department, along with multiple animal rescue agencies investigated two cases of animal cruelty and neglect. The dogs were seized in both cases, and the owners were charged with multiple felony animal cruelty and neglect charges.
The two high-profile animal cruelty cases were completely dismissed, and the felony charges dropped in what appears to be a terrible case of injustice. According to reports, the owners have even been given their dogs back. It seems these were legitimate cases of animal cruelty and we’re appalled that the justice system would show such little care for the lives of animals. We demand that animal cruelty be punished instead of rewarded.
