Save Butterflies From Extinction

Target: Jim Kurth, Acting Director of U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service

Goal: Save butterflies from the brink of extinction.

Many species of butterfly are dying out rapidly due to the loss of their habitat and entrapment by collectors. Wildfires and developers are stripping the land of the flowers these butterflies need to thrive, and collectors capture and place them in jars to slowly suffocate and die or albums where they are snuffed out quickly and pressed onto a page.

Butterflies are highly important to us in many different ways. They rival bees as the top pollinators, helping our flowers, crops, and other plant life thrive. They teach children about the life cycle; caterpillars are among the top insects discussed and studied in elementary schools. Their presence is calming to those suffering from stress, illness or poor moods. Their beauty is inspiring. Butterflies have lived on this planet for millions of years, making them one of the oldest species in existence.

We cannot allow these lovely creatures to go extinct. We need them to keep our flora thriving, to beautify the environment and to serve as an example of the life cycle and how incredible it truly is. Sign this petition to demand the protection of butterflies before it is too late.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Director Kurth,

Many species of butterfly are on the critically endangered list due to loss of habitat and collection. The areas in which they thrive have been taken from them by wildfires and development, and collectors treat them as pretty tokens, with little regard for them as living creatures.

We need butterflies for our planet to thrive. Not only are they among the top pollinators of crops, flowers and other plant life, but they are incredible mood-lifters and the way by which children learn about the natural life cycle. Butterflies are not just pretty, colorful little bugs, they are among the oldest living creatures on this planet and do far more than we give them credit for.

Please help us keep the butterfly population from dwindling to nothing. We must protect these creatures, for without them, our ecology would suffer greatly.

Sincerely,

  1. Once bees and butterflies disappear, there will be no more food for humans. Then maybe people will do something to save these insects. By then it will be too late! How stupid people are to not care until it’s too late.

Unfortunately, people will not be able to save both the butterflies and the bees. We will all have died of starvation.
