Applaud Decision to Ban Cruel Dogfighting

Target: Enrique Peña Nieto, president of Mexico

Goal: Thank the Mexican Congress for putting a nationwide ban on dogfighting.

Mexico’s Congress has passed a ban on dogfighting nationwide, beginning the process of putting an end to this cruel practice in the country. The House and Senate have also put through a measure stating that Mexico City, the Mexican federation, and federal states will have to penalize dogfighting within the next year. To put this ban into action, the Senate will need to pass a reform to the federal criminal code that will list the penalties for dogfighting. Once this reform is passed, they will be able to begin cracking down on cruel dogfighters.

Dogfighting is currently banned in many Mexican states and Mexico City, but there was no national policy until now. This national ban will also help stop American dogfighters from coming down to Mexico – dogfighting is a felony in all 50 states, and it’s a federal felony. With the ban in Mexico, these cruel dogfighters will have nowhere to go.

This dogfighting ban is a huge win for animal advocates, and it will save countless dogs from being forced to perform in bloody and often deadly fights. Sign this petition to thank the Mexican government for banning cruel dogfights, and to urge them to quickly pass their reform to the federal criminal code so they can begin penalizing dogfighters.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear President Peña Nieto,

Thank you for passing a ban on dogfighting. Dogfighting is a cruel practice that has led to countless dog injuries and deaths over the years. Although dogfighting was banned in many Mexican states and in Mexico City, there were still states and cities where it was legal. Your ban will stop dogfighters from flocking to these places, and it will allow you to penalize anyone who is caught cruelly forcing dogs to fight.

A 2016 poll shows that 99 percent of all Mexican citizens oppose dogfighting, and 85 percent think it should be penalized. With these poll results, it’s clear that your decision has the full support of the people of Mexico. Thank you for putting an end to cruel dogfights in your country. Now, I urge you to put through your reform to the federal criminal code as soon as possible so you can begin prosecuting dogfighters to the full extent of the law.

Sincerely,

  1. Margrit Simons says:

Thank you for caring and for taking action!

    • BANNING IT means NOTHING….its illegal in the U.S. as well, and that doesn’t stop it!

HOWEVER IF the police choose to use the law to prosecute those found holding dogfights, that will be helpful…..but they have to LOOK for dogfights, follow tips, and then RAID the dogfights and arrest the people involved! Only then will SOME justice happen.

  2. I hope it will be policed as they will just go underground these people care nothing for bans

  3. Yes, I agree with everyone. Banning this cruelty means nothing unless it’s enforced and hopefully severely punished for breaking the law.
