Target: Horacio Gimenez, Chief of Buenos Aires Police
Goal: Prosecute those responsible for allegedly pulling a dolphin out of the water and letting it die in the sun.
A new video has emerged from San Bernardo, Argentina, showing tourists surrounding and hovering over a baby dolphin while the innocent animal roasts in the sun. It is unclear whether or not the dolphin was sick beforehand, but the stress from so much human contact and from being forced out of the water almost certainly contributed to this dolphin’s death.
Dolphins cannot survive out of water for long because of their thick, blubbery skin. Their skin absorbs heat very quickly, which results in a dramatic increase in body temperature. Evidently, none of the tourists shown in the video possessed this knowledge about dolphins — they seemed concerned with little more than pursuing the perfect selfie. Sign this petition to demand justice on behalf of this poor dolphin, and other wild animals who fall victim to overly-confident, uninformed tourists.
Dear Chief Gimenez,
A disturbing video from the beaches of San Bernardo shows many tourists hovering and crowding over a baby dolphin while it roasts in the sun. A local newspaper reported that the dolphin was pulled out of the water while witnesses crowded around in order to pet it or get a picture.
It is unclear whether or not the baby was sick beforehand, but the stress of being around so many humans and not begin returned to the water was certainly harmful, and demonstrates the tourists’ lack of regard for the animal’s well being. Dolphins cannot survive out of the water for long because their thick, blubbery skin absorbs heat quickly, leading to increased body temperature.
Dolphins already face many hardships because of humans, including fishing nets and pollution. Ignorance and selfish desires that jeopardize wildlife should not be tolerated. Please investigate this case and punish those responsible.
