Target: T. Dan Friedkin, Chairman of Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission
Goal: Ban the cruel trapping technique known as gassing.
Gassing is a technique used by trappers in order to lure animals out of their dens and burrows. Trappers will use gasoline or other noxious chemicals to force animals out of their dens and burrows so they can be captured.
Gassing can cause serious respiratory injuries, burns and even death. It also introduces poisonous chemicals to the environment and can lead to injury or death in non-targeted species including endangered species. Then, the helpless babies left behind often die without their mothers’ help and protection.
Sign this petition and demand that Texas ban the cruel practice of gassing.
Dear Chairman Friedkin,
Your department will soon be meeting to discuss current issues and activity associated with Texas’ wildlife and lands. Gassing was an issue on the agenda but it has recently been removed. Gassing is incredibly cruel, and it is time to consider banning this practice.
Gassing is a technique trappers use to force animals out of their dens and burrows. Gasoline or other noxious chemicals are typically used. Gassing can cause serious injuries including burns, respiratory problems and even death. It affects all kinds of wildlife including non-target species and endangered species. It leaves babies alone and helpless without their mothers, which usually leads to their deaths as well.
Please consider putting an end to this cruel practice. Not only is it incredibly inhumane but it is also bad for our precious and delicate environment.
