Target: Secretary Tom Vilsack, Head of the United States Department of Agriculture
Goal: Demand the immediate shutdown of Birds & Animals Unlimited, an animal training company accused of animal cruelty after a German shepherd was allegedly forced to perform a stunt in “A Dog’s Purpose.”
A German shepherd was reportedly forced to jump into rushing water against its will while filming “A Dog’s Purpose.” Amblin Entertainment and distributor Universal Pictures stated, “on the day of the shoot, Hercules [the dog] did not want to perform the stunt portrayed on the tape so the Amblin production team did not proceed with filming that shot.” However, the American Humane Association is investigating the possible abuse, and says it has suspended the representative who worked on this film.
PETA has had longstanding concerns with Birds & Animals Unlimited (BAU), the company that reportedly supplied all of the dogs for “A Dog’s Purpose.” PETA stated, “PETA’s investigation at BAU revealed that animals are denied veterinary care, forced to sleep outdoors in the cold without bedding for warmth, made to live in filthy conditions, and more.” The animal rights group has filed these concerns with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and they are asking the public to boycott “A Dog’s Purpose” while an investigation takes place.
BAU cannot be permitted to profit from this cruelty. Sign below and demand the immediate investigation and shut down of this company.
Dear Secretary Vilsack,
A German Shepherd was reportedly forced to jump into rushing water against its will while filming “A Dog’s Purpose.” Amblin Entertainment and Universal Pictures denied this claim, stating that the dog is “happy and healthy.” We demand justice for this innocent dog.
Shocking scenes, leaked by TMZ, reportedly showed a frightened German Shepherd clinging to the edge of a pool. The dog, one of many used in the film “A Dog’s Purpose,” was reportedly forced to complete the stunt despite its discomfort. This dog, along with all of the other dogs used on set, was supplied by Birds & Animals Unlimited. Per PETA, BAU has a long history of animal cruelty violations including denying veterinary care and forcing animals to sleep outside in the cold.
This cruelty cannot continue. BAU must be investigated and shut down immediately.
