Goal: Open investigation into nail-embedded pieces of ham left at a popular dog walking spot.
Dog owners have reported finding meat laced with sharp objects at the entrance to a popular park where community residents often walk their dogs. Posted to Facebook were photos of what appears to be ham filled with nails, cocktail sticks, and other sharp objects. An investigation is necessary to ensure that no animals are harmed by this cruel trap.
These types of bait can cause serious harm to dogs as well as wild animals. It can cut up the animals’ mouths, throats, and esophaguses, and even cause severe internal damage. Some animals in these cases require extensive surgery, and some can even die.
So far, Preston Police and the RSPCA have not yet opened an investigation into the matter. They have, however, asked anyone with information about the spiked meat to come forward. This case comes hot on the heels of a similar one where cocktail sausages embedded with nails were found in South Wales.
If found, the person responsible for leaving these potentially deadly bits of food could face six months in jail and a fine of up to $60,000. It is imperative that an investigation is opened and that the person responsible is harshly punished in order to deter this all-too-common type of cruelty. Sign the petition below to demand the maximum possible penalty in this case.
Dear Mr. Suttie,
Dog owners have reported finding pieces of ham embedded with nails and wooden spikes at a popular dog walking location. These types of bait can cause serious harm to dogs as well as other wild animals. This harm can include lacerations inside of the mouth, throat, and esophagus, as well as more serious internal punctures. In serious cases, bait like this can cause damage that requires serious surgery or even result in death.
Particularly considering the fact that cases like these are seemingly becoming more common, it is imperative that the person responsible is apprehended and punished. Recently, cocktail sausages laced with mails were found in a South Wales park. We, the undersigned, demand that the person responsible is found and harshly punished in order to deter this type of barbaric cruelty.
