Target: Dan Street, Sullivan, Tennessee County Attorney

Goal: Seek the maximum penalty for man who allegedly beat his girlfriend and cat for days.

A 23-year-old allegedly beat his teenage girlfriend and her cat, leaving the defenseless animal with severe head trauma and a broken jaw. The attack began, according to reports, with James Winston grabbing his 19-year-old girlfriend by the throat and pinning her against a wall while repeatedly hitting her in the face. Police say Winston hit her until she collapsed to the floor, and then he hit her on the back of the head. The victim attempted to crawl out a back door, but Winston reportedly put her in a choke hold, cutting off her breathing, then dragged her into a bedroom. Police say Winston took the victim’s keys and phone, telling her he “needed to spend some quality time with the cat.”

The next day, Winston targeted the cat, according to his girlfriend, who says he struck the animal and repeatedly beat it against the counter and floor. He reportedly shook the cat by the neck, threatening to kill it. The animal wailed and began bleeding from the mouth and defecated, according to police.

This defenseless animal was relentlessly tortured, as was the cat’s owner. This behavior is precisely what is often exhibited by deranged serial killers. He could end up killing the victims next time, which is why we must demand that they get the justice and protection they deserve.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Street,

A man allegedly beat his 19-year-old girlfriend and her cat in a relentless attack that lasted for days. James Winston allegedly hit the victim in the face repeatedly, then choked her before taking her phone and keys.

The cat required emergency treatment for a broken jaw and severe head trauma while the teenager sustained extensive bruises and a black eye. Please bring these innocent victims justice by seeking the maximum possible penalty, if the suspect is guilty.

Sincerely,

Try picking on someone who can fight back. Oh yeah, you’re a whimp and can only pick on the weak.

  2. Janice Meyer says:

This is clearly a case of high level felony animal cruelty and cruelty and abuse of the owner. The owner and her cat were held captive while she and the cat were being tortured and beaten. He is a very dangerous character and must be dealt with on a high felony level, serving many years in prison for such a heinous crime.

I’m so tired of these young punk’s hurting defenseless animals. If they can do this to an animal they have no registration for human life either. Put him under the jail cell. We all know he will get a slap on the wrist.

Should be double attemped MURDER! DEATH PENALTY CASE. To protect society ( animal and human) from this inhuman being before he starts killing!Save potential victims!

  5. You’ve got a witness with extensive bruises and a black eye and a cat with a broken jaw and head trauma, there is no way out for this guy… He’s doomed and thank god. Too bad these big shot Batterers create so much damage before they get nailed – is a sickness and they usually don’t change, just fake a lot, always someone else’s fault, so lock him up for A VERY LONG TIME…they’re not used to having to deal with someone their own size.
His victims may not be any safer when and if he is released and may be at greater risk of harm…
LOCK the deadbeat up and THROW THE KEY AWAY…
