Find Thief Who Stole a Disabled Falcon from a Wildlife Rehab Center

Target: Thomas Krumpter, Nassau County, New York Police Commissioner

Goal: Return a stolen 14-year-old falcon with special needs to his worried caretakers at Nassau County Wildlife Center.

Buster, a 14-year-old falcon, was cut from his perch and taken from his home at Nassau County Wildlife center. He is an American Kestrel falcon, the smallest breed of North American falcon. All birds that reside at the wildlife center have problems that make it impossible for them to be released into the wild.

The thief was likely unaware of Buster’s many conditions. Buster is over 14 years old and he has been cared for by humans for his entire life. This means that he has imprinted on people and does not know how to engage with other falcons. He has been on a special diet for his entire life and his age would make him very vulnerable if he was to be released.

The staff is worried that the person who took Buster does not know how to give the bird the special care that it needs to live a healthy life. The volunteers and staff at the center are naturally attached to Buster and are very worried about him, and they have spread his picture and story on social media platforms begging for his return.

Wildlife center staff have kindly offered to drop all charges against the thief as long as the bird is returned safely to the center. They will take the bird back with no questions asked as long as Buster is unharmed. Sign this petition to demand that Nassau county police do more to find and return this bird to the wildlife center.

Dear Commissioner Krumpter,

An American Kestrel falcon named Buster was taken from Nassau County Wildlife Center. He was stolen from his perch. Staff and volunteers at the center are very worried about Buster because he is 14 years old and hand raised on a special diet. If he is released into the wild, he would not fare long. If the person who took Buster does not know how to address his special needs, then he will likely die in the thief’s care.

Whoever stole Buster was likely unaware of his condition because he is such a healthy looking bird, so it is important to locate him quickly. Please, work to quickly find the person who stole him and return him to his home at the wildlife center.

  3. Gigi Middlebrook says:

I hope that Buster will do some damage to this fool. Like poke their eyes out and cut their arms or something. What an idiot. When they catch this idiot throw him in jail!!!

  4. Rosslyn Osborne says:

Please return Buster, he has only known human contact and feeding, these are very beautiful birds but suffer stress extremely easily. They get to the point of of giving up on life if traumatised by sudden changes in routines.
If you really care for this bird, please don’t let it suffer and die like this…. Please return him.
