Save Yellowstone Bison from Being Slaughtered

Target: Dan Wenk, Yellowstone National Park Superintendent

Goal: Relocate Yellowstone bison to Fort Peck Indian Reservation instead of slaughtering them.

Forty Yellowstone bison are currently sitting in the Stephens Creek Bison Capture Facility, waiting to see if they’ll be given a new home or if they’ll be slaughtered. These bison were rounded up to appease the Montana cattle industry, who worry that the bison will infect their cattle with brucellosis. However, there have been no documented cases of bison transferring brucellosis to cattle. The 40 bison at Stephens Creek Bison Capture Facility have all tested negative for brucellosis so far, but the cattle industry still does not want them near their herds.

The National Park service has developed a plan that will appease the cattle industry and save the Yellowstone bison from slaughter. Under the plan, the bison will be sent to the Fort Peck Indian Reservation in Montana. There, they’ll be quarantined for further brucellosis testing, which can take two and a half years. Once they’re declared healthy, they’ll be able to start new conservation herds in the area. But even though this plan would be very effective, park officials have been slow to approve it. As they drag their feet, the lives of 40 bison are on the line.

Sending the bison to the Fort Peck Indian Reservation to create new conservation herds is a much better choice than needlessly slaughtering them. Sign this petition to urge the Yellowstone National Park officials to put their proposal into action as soon as possible.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Wenk,

I’m writing to urge you to put through the proposal that will send the 40 Yellowstone bison in the Stephens Creek Bison Capture Facility to the Fort Peck Indian Reservation. The bison at this facility have all tested negative for brucellosis, but they cannot be released into the wild because the cattle industry does not want them near their herds. The only other option is slaughtering the bison, which is why it’s so important to relocate them as soon as possible.

Your plan to send the bison to the Fort Peck Indian Reservation is a much better choice than slaughtering these innocent animals. Under the plan, the bison will be quarantined and tested for brucellosis for approximately two and a half years. Then, they’ll be able to begin new conservation herds and continue growing their population. Your plan is the right choice for both Montana’s cattle industry and the Yellowstone bison.

Please do not needlessly slaughter the 40 bison currently living in limbo at the Stephens Creek Bison Capture Facility. Instead, please send these bison to the Fort Peck Indian Reservation, where they’ll be able to start a new life.

Sincerely,

Should be preferring and protecting the native species long before the cattle industry! They are the greedy land thieves killing of the county and causing starvation of millions of humans. The meat is causing cancer and diabetes, thus costing taxpayers billions of dollars each year.

Damn the human race Jesus, all they know is violence, killing, torture and eating the precious Animal Kingdom. Please make these animal murderers suffer and as they are making the animals suffer and die, in Jesus name I pray.

Cattle ranchers like this need to be sent a strong message that the world does not revolve around their livelihood. Many of them really do seem to think that anything that does not make money for them personally needs to be killed.
The land they graze their cattle on was stolen from the Natives. They need to learn some respect and gratitude rather than calling for animals that the Natives hold sacred to be slaughtered needlessly.

  4. LA MATANZA DE LOS BÚFALOS ES IMPERDONABLE, ES UN CRIMEN Y LA INDUSTRIA DE LÁCTEOS DE BÚFALOS ES INACEPTABLE!!!! ALTO CON ESTAS TERRIBLES CRUELDADES, BASTA DE MATADEROS. YA DEJEN A LOS ANIMALES EN PAZ!!!

  5. Carole RILEY says:

    Leave the animals alone.

  6. NO PUEDO CREER QUE ESTO ESTÉ PASANDO, GRANJAS MACABRAS TAMBIÉN PARA BÚFALOS??????? NO, ESTO YA NO ES POSIBLE, TANTA Y TAN MISERABLE CRUELDAD YA NO LA PODEMOS TOLERAR MÁS. ALTO A ESTOS CRÍMENES EN SERIE!!!

  7. Just one of the dirty doings of the very Government offices that are suppose to be protecting these animals. We wont mention any names but DOI, FWS, BLM, just to name a few and using your tax dollars to do it.
Stand up for what is right people, killing wildlife to benefit the pathetic ranchers and their mismanaged livestock grazing freely on our public land. Dirty oil supported by the dirty dollars that also kill anything and everything.
Its been proven, gone public and yet it still goes on !
