Target: Dr. H. Ade Komarudin, M.H., Indonesian Speaker of the House
Goal: Save the critically endangered Sumatran orangutan.
Currently, there are only a little over 7,000 Sumatran orangutans left in this world. The rest have died due to the loss of their habitat, poaching, and the illegal pet trade. Acres of rainforest are being torn down to give humans more space for their plantations and homes as well as to benefit the logging industry, and the orangutans are captured and sold as pets despite not being able to thrive in such cloistered environments. These animals need nature and wide open spaces to survive and multiply.
We cannot allow the numbers of these endangered animals to grow smaller. They have just as much right to live as anyone, and humans must consider their needs before their own. Farmlands, houses, highways, and logging may be important to us, but they should not come before the well-being of wild animals. We must also put an end to the pet trade, as it forces wild animals out of their natural habitat and dooms them to illness and distress in overly cramped spaces.
We must demand stronger protection of the Sumatran orangutan as well as their habitat. We cannot let deforestation, the logging industry, and the agriculture industry rob this species of its life and well-being. Sign this petition to help protect these animals from further endangerment.
Dear Dr. Komarudin,
The Sumatran orangutan is critically endangered due to the loss of their habitat to deforestation, the logging industry, and the agriculture industry. In addition, poachers are capturing these animals and selling them as exotic pets despite the danger to their health and well-being. There are only a little over 7,000 Sumatran orangutans left in the world, and that number will not increase unless we take action.
You must implement and enforce stronger protection laws for orangutan habitat, in addition to putting a stop to the illegal pet trade. Wild animals must not be forcibly sold and kept as pets, they need nature and wide open spaces to survive. Please put a stop to the destruction of the rainforests the Sumatran orangutan calls its home, and to the pet trade that threatens their lives and well-being.
