Target: Don McCoy, Park President of Six Flags Discovery Kingdom

Goal: Thank Six Flags Discovery Kingdom for no longer offering elephant rides.

After some deliberation, Six Flags Discovery Kingdom decided to no longer offer elephant rides to its visitors. This is great news considering elephant rides can cause serious injury to the people and the animals.

Training elephants to allow people to ride them often involves physical pain and can lead to serious mental and physical problems including arthritis and foot disease. Training often involves a bullhook, which is a long tool with a sharp end used to poke and prod the elephants.

Sign this petition and thank Six Flags for ending this cruel form of entertainment. Animals should not be forced into a lifetime of pain and neglect for a few moments of entertainment.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. McCoy,

Recently, you decided to stop offering elephant rides at your amusement park. I was ecstatic to hear this news.

Elephants used for rides often develop serious diseases including arthritis and foot disease. In addition, their training often uses pain as a way to force the elephants into doing what the trainer desires. The company you were contracted with has been recorded beating and shocking its elephants with bullhooks and electric prods.

Thank you for making the compassionate choice and no longer forcing elephants to give rides. No animal should be imprisoned for a few moments of entertainment.

Sincerely,

  2. In this vile world of animal cruelty it’s so nice to sign a petition saying thank you for no longer making these elephants give rides. We hope that other countries will start listening to our concerns and start giving all animals the love compassion, respect and freedom that they rightly deserve.Thank you once again for caring.

  3. Thank you for eliminating the elephant rides. It is greatly appreciated since these majestic animals suffer horribly at the hands of their trainers. If you have any more animal attractions, I implore you to do away with those as well. You are in a perfect position to show that a world-wide attraction can be animal-free. Many thanks!

  4. Yes, as trainers beat elephants with bullhooks and shock them into submission with electric prods, THANK YOU. It is a side of things the general public never sees. It is only DEMAND which allows this horror to continue, so thank you for setting a precedent.
When animals are beaten and broken for compliance, and food withheld, caged in the middle of a noisy amusement park and whales housed alone though the animal welfare act stipulates that dolphins and orcas must be housed with others of their kind due to their social natures, theme park allure certainly fades… Times have changed.
As a growing amusement park has sprung up all around what was once only a zoo and marine park, you really are in a perfect position to show that a worldwide attraction can be animal-free, as Jacqueline says…
