Applaud Ban Against Cruel Tail Docking

Target: Brendan Matthews, President of the College of Veterinarians of British Columbia

Goal: Thank British Columbia for banning the cruel act of tail docking on dogs, horses and cattle.

The province of British Colombia has recently banned the cruel act of tail docking. Tail docking is when an animal’s tail is cut off, typically without the use of anesthetics. This new ban protects dogs, horses and cattle.

Tail docking is mainly done for cosmetic purposes, as there are no true benefits. The president of the College of Veterinarians of British Columbia, Brendan Matthews, stated that “veterinarians have an ethical responsibility to the animals they treat and tail docking goes against that responsibility.”

British Columbia is now the fifth province in Canada to ban this cruel act. Many parts of Europe have already banned tail docking and it is banned throughout Australia as well. Sign this petition and thank British Columbia for making the compassionate choice to ban tail docking.

Dear Dr. Matthews,

Recently, British Columbia made the groundbreaking decision to ban tail docking. As you are well aware, tail docking is when an animal has his or her tail cut off, typically without the use of anesthetics. The ban will help protect dogs, horses and cattle from needless suffering.

Tail docking has no true benefits and is done mainly for cosmetic purposes. Animals should not be forced to endure pain to look a certain way. Thankfully, British Columbia agreed and now protects these animals from this unnecessary pain.

Thank you for making the compassionate choice and helping dogs, horses and cattle throughout your province. I can only hope more provinces and countries follow in your footsteps.

  1. Except for medical reasons, tail docking should be banned, everywhere. It is extremely cruel maim animals for cosmetic reasons–just to please a selfish human!

  2. FanTAStic!!!!! And about time another province joined in these mutilation bans!

    Other provinces and territories:

Quebec – as of 2017, no tail docking for dogs, cattle and horses for cosmetic reasons. Already banned ear cropping for dogs and cats.

PEI and Newfoundland & Labrador – prohibit ear cropping, tail docking, and most cosmetic surgeries.

New Brunswick, Nova Scotia – no cosmetic surgeries on pets.

Manitoba and Saskatchewan – no ear cropping.

Only bloody Alberta and Ontario, and the two Territories have NO such laws, where the decision on whether to mutilate animals is left up to individual veterinarians, despite veterinary groups there opposing it.
