Target: Eddie Velasquez, Owner of Zocalo Cantina
Goal: Stop Zocalo Catina from selling shots that contain live fish.
A bar in Texas offers shots that are called “The Last Swim” due to the fact that a live fish is in the liquor. Not only is this incredibly inhumane, but it is also potentially dangerous for the people consuming the shots.
Fish are often dismissed as simple animals, but that is not the case. Fish are incredibly complex and social creatures with unique personalities. They can communicate with each other and experience pain just like us. Forcing fish to not only swim in alcohol, but to be swallowed alive to die in a pool of acid is extremely cruel and barbaric.
Sign this petition to demand Zocalo Cantina stop selling “The Last Swim” shots. These fish should not be forced to endure this pain and untimely death for a gimmick.
Dear Mr. Velasquez,
Your bar offers shots shots contain live fish, aptly named “The Last Swim.” Not only is this incredibly inhumane, but this is also potentially dangerous for your customers.
Consuming live fish can lead to the spread of parasites and diseases including salmonella. This would give your establishment a horrible reputation if a customer succumbed to either. In addition, forcing a fish into alcohol only to be swallowed alive to die in a pool of stomach acid is barbaric and incredibly cruel. Fish are incredibly complex and social creatures and it is time they are treated as such.
Please consider no longer selling “The Last Swim” shots. Animals should not die for a few seconds of entertainment.
