Target: Bill de Blasio, Mayor of New York City

Goal: Shut down New York City puppy mill accused of selling sick dogs to customers.

Several customers have reported buying puppies from the Citipups pet store, all of which suffered lung and chest infections and one of which died just days after its purchase. The owners whose dogs survived had to spend thousands of dollars out of pocket to save their pets’ lives, because Citipups reportedly failed to notify the prospective owners that the dogs were ill.

Stores like this one is accused of being are nothing but glorified puppy mills, establishments that prize profit over the well-being of the dogs. They over-breed the animals, neglect them to the point of cruelty and lie to the customers about their health. Citipups is just another business in a long chain of puppy stores accused of such misdeeds.

We must protect dogs from abuses like the ones Citipups stands accused of. Puppy mills on the whole are a cruel and mercenary business, and the allegations against Citipups is just more proof that the business needs to be shut down forever. Sign this petition to demand this chain of pet stories be closed and the dogs under their supposed care rescued.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mayor de Blasio,

A pet store in your city has allegedly sold sick dogs to several customers, who were not told about the dogs’ health until they’d brought them home and they became dangerously ill. One dog reportedly died, and the others needed thousands of dollars worth of care for conditions the store’s vets should have already checked on and taken care of. This is just one more link in a chain of puppy mill disasters, apparently caused by a business that cares more about profit than about the well-being of the animals.

Puppy mills have been a blight on animal welfare for decades now, but they continue to run. We cannot allow this to continue, too many dogs have suffered. Please ensure that the Citipups pet store chain is shut down completely for their alleged dishonesty and cruelty.

Sincerely,

  1. THIS is a very naive petition…..ALL pet stores should be shut down, or converted to selling ONLY puppies and kittens from shelters and rescues……as it stands now, ALL puppies from pet stores come from puppy mills…..yes, they’re bathed and made to look “cute” but it doesn’t change the facts.

    From “Madonna of the Mills”:

Madonna of the Mills/ Puppy Mills:
10 Things To Know About Puppy Mills | Facts and Statistics
99% of puppies sold in pet stores come from puppy mills.
Nearly 100% of all puppies in pet stores have parasites when they are purchased.
48% of puppies being sold in pet stores were ill or incubating an illness at the time of purchase, according to a recent California study.
500,000 puppies are born in puppy mills and sold in pet stores every
    year in the United States.
There are 35,000 pet stores in America
Puppy millers can make more than $300,000 growing puppies every year.
Puppy mills have been around since the early 1960s.
Almost every Puppy sold in a pet store has a mother who will spend her entire life in a tiny cage, never being petted, never being walked, never being treated like a dog.
Female dogs are usually bred 2x a year. At that rate, they usually burn out by age 5, at which time they are put to death.
About 1 million breeder dogs are confined in puppy mills throughout the country.

    • Neville Bruce says:

Prohibit ALL pet shop mills – and limit the number of pets people can have! Not only are there too many people on the planet, either personally wasteful or part of the laying waste of our Earth, but there’re too many pets adding to the problem. If people must have pets, then PLEASE rescue an abandoned one.

  2. NEW YORK, SHUT DOWN YOUR PUPPY MILL SALES! Shut these pet stores down, NEW YORK GET EDUCATED!

  3. Rebecca Martello says:

ALL puppies/kittens in pet stores come from mills. All puppy mills need to be shut down. Pet stores should not be allowed to sell pets EXCEPT those that are brought in from animal shelters.
NEW YORK…SHUT DOWN YOUR PUPPY MILLS!

  4. JUST SHOT ALL THE PEOPLE THAT PUT ALL THESE BEAUTIFUL LITTLE CREATURES THROUGH THIS TORMENT. EVIL SICK BASATARDS
