Target: Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph D. Coronato
Goal: Praise law enforcement for arresting a man who killed his pet dog with car exhaust fumes
A prior ForceChange petition had demanded for Clifford Robbins, the man responsible for killing his dog Mocha with car exhaust fumes, to be punished for his crimes, and he has finally been arrested in his home about four months after the reported incident.
After arriving at Robbins’ residence, police officers found Mocha’s lifeless body inside a sealed animal travel crate that was connected to the exhaust pipe of Robbins’ car. Toms River Assistant Attorney Anthony Merlino had stated that Robbins allegedly tried to create a makeshift container to euthanize the dog with carbon monoxide from the exhaust pipes. Although local authorities previously decided not to take any action within their jurisdiction, the Prosecutor’s Office of Ocean County launched an investigation into the case and ordered a necropsy to be performed on Mocha.
Prosecutor Joseph Coronato has announced that an Ocean County Grand Jury indicted Clifford on a charge of third-degree cruelty to animals, which can result in a prison time of three to five years, and was served an arrest warrant at his home by members of the prosecutor’s office and the New Jersey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NJSPCA). Robbins has been processed and released for a future court date. According to authorities, Robbins will undergo a pre-arraignment conference within the next 3 weeks and attend this formal arraignment in no more than two months.
Please sign this petition to thank the Ocean County prosecutor’s office for investigating the case and ensuring that Clifford Robbins was punished for his crime.
Dear Prosecutor Joseph Coronato,
Mocha the dog was euthanized inhumanely, but thanks to you and your staff’s combined efforts, the perpetrator responsible for her death has been arrested. Thank you for reopening the case for investigation when local authorities had initially decided not to press charges. I hope that Ocean County and the state of New Jersey will show the same level of determination to protect innocent animals. While many cases of animal cruelty are overlooked, at least Mocha has been given justice.
Please continue to protect the animals of Ocean County and let animal abusers know that their actions will not go unpunished.
