Goal: Demand thorough investigation of Hawaiian animal shelter after over 250 dogs were rescued from alleged poor care and abuse.

A man who worked at the Friends For Life animal shelter in Hawaii was arrested after the discovery of over 250 dogs who allegedly suffered under his lack of care. The dogs were reported to be thin, emaciated and suffering a multitude of skin conditions. Furthermore, the shelter has been called into question previously after reports that some of the animals were being mistreated.

The fact that this facility has been called into question more than once coupled with such a large number of dogs reportedly suffering from cruelty and neglect does not cast the Friends For Life shelter in a good light. While it is too soon to demand they be shut down, they must be investigated and held accountable for their alleged misdeeds. Should this animal shelter not be determined adequate, they must be made to clean up their act and improve their practices for the sake of the animals they are supposed to be caring for.

Animal shelters are no longer pounds where abandoned animals wait to either be rescued or die. They function as temporary homes for animals who have nowhere else to stay or have been saved from abusive situations. Sign this petition to demand a proper investigation of Friends For Life.

Dear President Atwood,

Over 250 dogs were rescued from the Friends For Life animal shelter, and their caretaker arrested on the suspicion of second-degree animal cruelty. The shelter has also been called into question in the past. Therefore, a thorough investigation of the shelter is needed to ensure that they are capable of caring for animals, and if they are not on the level they must be made to clean up their act.

Animal shelters are meant to be safe havens for abused and abandoned animals, not places to be feared or suspected. The large number of dogs who allegedly suffered under their caretaker’s cruelty are just one instance of suspicion raised by Friends For Life. Please conduct a thorough investigation in order to ensure no more animals are harmed.
