Target: Joseph Wazny, Manhattan Chief of Police

Goal: Arrest and criminally charge man who witnesses say tried to set dogs on fire.

A man reportedly accosted a woman and tried to set fire to the two dogs she was walking in the middle of the day in an exclusive Manhattan community. Though witnesses reported the incident and police arrived on the scene, no arrest was made and no charges have been issued. Vikram Chatwal is a wealthy man with a reputation, and it seems likely that he will use his influence to escape punishment as he has allegedly done for other crimes.

Chatwal was previously arrested for possession and all he had to do to get the charges dropped was complete one year of rehab. He is known for dating supermodels and for outbidding Puff Daddy on a Picasso painting. He comes from a wealthy family and is a hotelier who owns several boutique inns around New York City.

The woman he allegedly accosted was a neighborhood dog walker. Chatwal reportedly screamed at her in a non-English language before using a lighter and aerosol can to throw 2-3 foot flames at the dogs. Witnesses claimed they heard him muttering about killing dogs because he believed they were causing fleas to infest his apartment. He spoke about being on anti-depressants as well and allegedly also screamed, “They must die.”

Bystanders intervened before squad cars pulled up. Police say Chatwal became belligerent and started talking about his power and money when they approached him. Chatwal’s assistant reportedly pulled him back inside his home, while he screamed at the cops, “You guys don’t have me, I have you.” This outburst is further evidence that he may plan to use his reputation to evade charges.

It appears that Chatwal’s episode could have resulted in the deaths or serious injury of people and animals on the street that day. This man’s alleged actions should not be excused due to his privilege, and he should have to answer for them. Chatwal should be charged with animal cruelty just like any other person accused of disturbing the peace in such a way. Demand that he be arrested immediately.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Chief Wazny,

Vikram Chatwal’s alleged recent attempt at murdering two dogs on the street is not being taken seriously enough by your department. He reportedly used a lighter and aerosol can to make a flame thrower which he aimed at the dogs, and also accosted the woman who was walking the dogs by surrounding her and screaming obscenities.

Police arrived on the scene and heard witness accounts, yet no arrest was made. Under any other circumstance, police would have hauled him away, yet it seems that Chatwal is using his privilege to escape charges of animal cruelty. Please make it a priority to arrest this man and punish him for allegedly trying to kill two dogs by setting them on fire.

Sincerely,
