Target: Curtis Hill, Elkhart County, Indiana Prosecuting Attorney
Goal: Charge duck farm employees with animal cruelty for allegedly bludgeoning and decapitating ducks.
Video footage reportedly shows 118 ducks being viciously tortured to death by workers at Culver Duck Farms, according to PETA. The Vice President of PETA, Dan Paden, said the video shows employees, including a supervisor, subjecting both young and adult ducks to slow, agonizing deaths. Workers reportedly burned the tips off of the baby ducklings’ beaks right after they hatched. One worker allegedly pulled a duckling’s head off, then laughed. Other methods of torture reportedly included flinging them around in circles before finally bashing the animal against the wall. The ducks can be seen writhing in pain and even crying out after their heads were bashed against brick walls or their necks wrung. Some were kicking, flapping their wings, and crying for up to an hour afterward. One duck was blinded from ammonia exposure, caused from the feces and urine build-up in overcrowded rearing barns.
Paden says the organization submitted a request to the state police asking them to determine whether the behavior violates the state’s cruelty to animals statute or not. Unfortunately, the police reportedly told them they were “still investigating.” It seems the issue, which was reported months ago, isn’t being treated as a priority.
These innocent animals were allegedly forced to endure unnecessary cruelty and a deplorable amount of suffering. If that doesn’t violate the animal cruelty laws, then Indiana must update their laws immediately. Please sign the petition below to demand that the workers involved in this alleged heinous cruelty be charged with animal cruelty.
Dear Mr. Hill,
Employees at a duck farm were allegedly caught on video causing unnecessary pain and suffering to over 100 ducks and ducklings. The footage shows employees throwing the ducks, bashing their heads repeatedly against brick walls, and wringing their necks. The attempts to kill the ducks via blunt force trauma only resulted in prolonging the pain and suffering these poor animals endured.
These are unacceptable methods of killing animals and there’s no excuse for this problem to continue. We urge you to see to it that the workers involved are charged with animal cruelty.
