Target: Brian Ellsworth, General Manager of Georgia State Fair
Goal: Stop the Georgia State Fair from giving away live fish, crabs, and iguanas as prizes.
At the Georgia State Fair, many booths give away live animals as prizes. These animals include fish, hermit crabs and iguanas. It is irresponsible to give away live animals to people when it cannot be determined whether or not they would be responsible owners.
Many of the people who win these animals are not prepared to take in a pet. This often results in the animal being neglected, thrown into the wild, or being bounced around from house to house. It is unfair to cause this unnecessary stress upon these animals.
Sign this petition and demand the Georgia State Fair stop giving away live animals as pets. There are many other alternatives, like stuffed animals, that could be used as prizes.
Dear Mr. Ellsworth,
It has come to my attention that the Georgia State Fair gives away live animals as prizes. These animals include iguanas, hermit crabs, and fish. It is irresponsible to give away live animals to people who are not deemed responsible enough to take care of a living being.
While these animals may seem small, they are unique in their own ways and thrive in the wild rather than tanks. As pets, these animals are often neglected, set into the wild, or bounced around from house to house. This causes lots of stress to these animals and could even result in death.
Please consider no longer using live animals as prizes at your fair. There are many more humane alternatives, including stuffed animals, that would make children just as happy.
