Permanently Lift Pit Bull Ban

Target: Louis Gouin, Quebec Superior Court Justice

Goal: Encourage judge to make the suspension on Montreal’s pit bull ban permanent.

Earlier this week, Montreal ordered a pit bull ban, which made it illegal for shelters to adopt out pit bulls and mandated that owners of pit bulls must adhere by strict laws. This ban included dogs that resembled American Staffordshire terriers, Staffordshire bull terriers, American pit bull terriers, or any mix of those breeds. Thankfully this ban has been lifted, for now.

With the ban in effect, all pit bulls in Montreal shelters would be euthanized and owners of pit bulls would be required to pay a permit and undergo a criminal background check. Their dogs would be sterilized, vaccinated and micro-chipped and would be forced to wear a muzzle and be tethered to a four foot leash while in public. If the owner did not comply with these demands, then the dog would be euthanized.

Thankfully there is a temporary suspension on this ban. Sign this petition to thank the judge for this suspension and encourage him to make it permanent.

Dear Justice Gouin,

Recently, Montreal ordered a pit bull ban, which put strict regulations on pit bull owners and made it illegal for shelters to adopt out pit bulls. Thanks to you, this unfair law has been temporarily lifted.

With this ban, all pit bulls in Montreal shelters would be euthanized and owners who do not comply with the new regulations would have their dogs euthanized. It is an unfair law that discriminates based on breed and hate. Breed-specific legislation does not help people or animals, but instead brings upon more unnecessary misery and death.

Ontario has had a pit bull ban for the last ten years and dog biting incidents have gone up. Please consider making the suspension of this ban permanent. Innocent dogs should not be killed only because of the way they look.

It breaks my heart that they are banning Pit Bulls every where, people need to wake up and realize it’s not the breed it’s the owner. I don’t understand how they find logic in this which results in the killing of all these luvable pets who have homes belonging to someone for no reason. Lift the permanent ban on Pit Bulls!!

  2. Bev Woodburn says:

It is not the Pitbulls that are the problem it is their vile and sadistic owners. The heartless human species is the cause of
all the vile and sadistic atrocities committed against the innocent. They torture and murder the innocent, in many cases just for the thrill of the suffering and the kill.Leave the defenceless and innocent sentient beings alone. They don,t deserve this sadism and evilness committed against them.

  3. Janice Meyer says:

I always thought of Canada as being progressive, but passing a bill to to ban pitbulls is archaic, and uncivilized. Any public entity that bans pitbulls is choosing to live in to force it’s citizens to live in a third world society. A law enforcement agency must have more pressing crimes to be solved (i.e. law enforcement should be catching the criminals, robbers, rapists, murderers. Montreal has decided their officers should catch all BSL dogs and bring them to be euthanized. There are never any pitbulls adopted from this agency. They kill them…..all of them.

  4. Gerry Cromwijk BSc says:

Pitbulls are a dangerous breed towards small animals and children. They should be banned.

    • Shirl Ann Wong says:

Its not the breed – its the owner and only people that are uneducated about the bred support the ban – educated yourself before you express an opinion

    • Amy Gilbert says:

You’re an idiot. I have raised my granddaughter around 2 of them and she lives with 2 American Bullies. They have never made one aggressive move towards her even when she is around their food. Dogs are not the problem. Owners who abuse and neglect them are the problem. Like all dogs and children, they need rules, boundries and limitations. We don’t ban all blacks, Hispanics or muslims because a few of them do bad things.
