Keep Endangered Wolves Wild

Target: Daniel M. Ashe, Director of U.S. Wildlife and Fisheries Service

Goal: Reconsider the USWFS’s current re-population plan for red wolves and keep the animals wild.

Red wolves once roamed throughout the Southeastern U.S., however, only 45 red wolves remain today in a small area of North Carolina. Instead of giving these animals more opportunity to grow as a population in the wild, the U.S. Wildlife and Fisheries Service (USWFS) has released its plan to take away almost 90 percent of the wolves’ habitat and take many into captivity. This is no recovery plan, but a death wish for wild red wolves.

For two years, USWFS has done virtually nothing for the remaining red wolves. Now, instead of helping these animals, they plan on taking away more of their land and their freedom. USWFS claims it will look for land to redistribute the population, but it seems to be an empty promise. Sign this petition and demand the USWFS keep red wolves wild and work to find a plan that will truly help them. Captivity will cause unimaginable physical and mental stress to these animals.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Ashe,

The U.S. Wildlife and Fisheries Service (USWFS) recently announced its plan to help wild red wolves, however its plan seems to do nothing but hinder progress, and may even spell the end of wild red wolves. The USWFS plans on taking away 90 percent of the red wolves remaining land and taking many of the wolves into captivity.

The USWFS claims that this will help reboot the population, however it is not the red wolf population that is at stake, but the wild red wolf population. Bringing these wild animals into captivity will do nothing for the wild population and could result in extreme mental and physical stress to these animals.

Please reconsider your current plan and brainstorm new ideas that would truly help the wild population of red wolves. We have already taken so much from these animals. The least we can do is let them keep their freedom.

Sincerely,

The Wildlife Service has no interest in protecting animals but rather hunting them into extinction!
